Pregnant and my sister lost her baby

Hi everyone,
My name is Tessa, I'm 27 years old, and I've been with my boyfriend Evert for six years. I'm pregnant with our first baby girl. We're super happy. But it's also quite hard for me, because my sister lost her one-year-old daughter a year and a half ago. The girl had cancer. Her name was Nadia, and that will also be the little one's middle name. Evert and I are very happy, but I also feel kind of awful about it. I can't really explain it. My sister is, of course, really happy for us and feels honored that our little girl will carry her name. So Nadia lives on a bit through her. Do any of you here have experience with this? I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm not sure how to deal with it. Love, Tessa.

That's absolutely terrible for your sister and your brother-in-law. I hope no one has to go through that

It's nice that you're going to name the baby after them. I don't have experience with this, but I want to wish you lots of strength—it's no small thing. And I think feeling guilty comes naturally because you love your sister so much and therefore share in her pain. But you really don't need to feel guilty (easier said than done). A pregnancy and a baby are the most beautiful things that can happen to you, and your sister knows that despite her immense grief. Enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can, girl. Before you know it, it'll be over and you won't have any kicking left in your belly, and it's so beautiful

Thank you all for the congratulations! Nynke is doing super well, and there's even more good news; my sister is pregnant again! So Nynke will have another nephew or niece. Nadia won't be forgotten, but this makes me really happy.

Glad you passed on the message. I understand you want to take a moment to reflect on the loss of your sister. If you're not sure what to say, a card with congratulations and a sincere condolence is often enough. You don't need to make sure it comes across perfectly; being honest usually does more good.
