6 weeks after curettage, positive test

Hi everyone,

First time on a forum so I hope I can describe everything okay. I was told on 6-10-2015 at 8 weeks pregnant that my little one no longer had a heartbeat. On 09-10-2015 I had a miscarriage induced by pills and lost the embryo, and on 11-10-2015 I still had a D&C. I haven't had any bleeding since the curettage. Now I'm 6 weeks and 2 days further and I'm testing strongly positive. I also tested at 5 weeks and that was positive too, but now it's really much clearer. Does anyone here have experience with this? Can I be pregnant again or could this still be hCG from the last pregnancy? I feel so unsure right now.

No experience with this, never had a D&C, but after 6 weeks I think if the tests are still positive after so many weeks, they shouldn't be that dark. The tests should actually get lighter each time, so maybe you're pregnant again I hope so for you! Otherwise, make an appointment with a midwife/GP and explain your story, especially since you're feeling so unsure about it. Maybe you can get an ultrasound or a blood test to measure your hCG?

Thanks for your reply, Chantieeee. I hope so too, but I don't want to celebrate too early. I also thought it was weird that the tests were becoming clearer and clearer. Looking back, I should have started testing sooner! I can see the gynecologist tomorrow .

Oww, that's so exciting for you! I hope there's a beautiful little miracle in your belly. Good luck!

That's really tough to hear that it didn't work out for you..

I had a miscarriage at 7.1 weeks and kept testing until I got a negative result. In the end, I even had blood drawn because I kept having symptoms; there was still hCG present, but I did another blood test two days later and thankfully it had gone down.

So I think it's wise to get blood drawn and test again a few days later to see if it's rising or falling. That's the only way to be sure.

Strength! (And of course I hope it's a new pregnancy)

Thanks, Pien! How long did it take for the hcg to leave your body?

April 20th positive test, April 25th light bleeding started, May 8th it continued and I bled until May 26th. HCG was still 5 on June 12th, that was the last blood test.

That's quite a long time, Pien! And of course it's really frustrating for you. I can't make heads or tails of it, and unfortunately, there's very little info out there either. GP said: it could go either way. OB said: I guess you're pregnant. Midwife said: maybe it's from the previous pregnancy??? So three different answers. I'm going in at 3 PM today, hopefully I'll know more then!

Sorry, but I really think it's weird how they're handling this. If I were you, I'd get a blood test done and then do it again 2 or 3 days later. Only then will you know for sure if it's a new pregnancy and you can at least take that into account. This uncertainty isn't doing you any good, and you can totally tell them that!

    Chrisje, good luck, girl!
I had a miscarriage and ended up getting a D&C in mid-July. After that, I had regular HCG blood tests to monitor the levels. If I remember correctly, four weeks later my HCG was already around or below 15, which would mean a test would show negative. By the end of August, my HCG was below 5 for the first time.

So it's quite possible that you're really pregnant again! Hopefully, you'll get a clear yes or no this afternoon!

But on the other hand, I don’t know what my hCG level was on the day of the curettage... So I don’t know exactly how high it was to begin with.

Hey Chrisje, I'm really curious how it went today...

Owww, you sure keep it exciting!

    Hi ladies,
So today I went to the OB-GYN, had an internal ultrasound, and they might be seeing the beginning of a pregnancy The doctor didn't want to congratulate me yet but wants to see me again next Tuesday for a second ultrasound, saying: "then we'll probably see more." They also took an hcg blood test, and I'll get the results tomorrow! Never expected to get pregnant so quickly again without even having had a period after the miscarriage! I'm also feeling a bit anxious, worried that it might go wrong again, but I guess every woman who's had a miscarriage feels that way! Do you all have kids already or are you still hoping for children?

Oh my, Liesje, that's intense! I just had to Google what a molar pregnancy is because I'd never heard of it before, but it sounds really serious!! Are you still having any symptoms? Anyway, strength to you!

Oww Chantie, that's great... it's exciting, I understand your anxiety, but try to trust your body a little bit too. I'm pregnant with my third one too, it's exciting, 6 weeks now

Congratulations Nicole! It's quite exciting, isn't it? Once you're past the 12-week mark, it'll probably bring a bit of relief!

I'm trying to listen to my body, Chrisje. I feel good, my belly is growing, no bleeding, etc. So I stay positive, otherwise those 12 weeks will be a real hell. December 9th is the first ultrasound, and until then I'm enjoying everything that's happening in my body.
