Folic acid not swallowed by HG

When I found out I was pregnant, I was 4 weeks along. I took folic acid for a week and a half, so until 5.5 weeks. Then I started feeling nauseous. I was hospitalized twice. I wasn't eating or drinking, nothing stayed down, and because of that, I didn't take any more folic acid. Just thinking about a pill made me gag (that's why I also used suppositories for nausea).
The nausea is still not gone. I'm not eating much yet. Mostly just milk with cornflakes. I've lost 11 kilos now.
I haven't taken any more folic acid.

Now I keep feeling guilty, what if my baby has an open spine or a cleft lip. I'll never forgive myself for this!
What are the chances now that my baby has this?

I have no idea what the chances are. I didn't take anything either with my first, and everything was fine then.
You could just Google it; there are probably percentages somewhere.

I just want to say, try not to stress too much. There's nothing you can do about it anyway, and in 6 weeks you'll have the 20-week ultrasound and know for sure.

My mom didn't take anything during my whole pregnancy and I don't have spina bifida, but I do recommend eating vegetables that contain folic acid. And if you can manage to take a multivitamin while pregnant, that contains iron.

Here’s the same story with hyperemesis!

It’s so frustrating that you’re dealing with this too. I’m currently in the hospital for the third time due to an emergency visit, having lost more than 10 kilos in just one month. I’m feeling dizzy, nauseous, and can’t keep anything down!

I’m now 11 weeks pregnant. I also took folic acid, but only for about 3-4 weeks before I started feeling nauseous, at which point I stopped taking it. The doctor tells me not to worry about it...

Have you tried Priperan instead of Emesane? Unfortunately, neither worked for me, which is why I’m back in the hospital. Stomach protectors might help you—they did help me!

Search online for hyperemesis; you’ll likely find a lot of similar experiences. It’s also important for those around you to understand. At first, I didn’t feel taken seriously by my family and loved ones, and people would sometimes make snide comments.

Good luck, and how many weeks are you at now?

People always talk about folic acid, but I took everything in one pill for all my pregnancies. So all the vitamins and minerals that the growing baby needs to grow.
I take Davitamon Complete Mama + Fish Oil, and that also contains folic acid.
Because the baby needs not only folic acid but also minerals and vitamins.
Which you simply can't get enough of from your food. Our food is manipulated.
There are flavorings and fragrances and colorings everywhere. All things from which the baby doesn't get enough of the right substances.
So it's best to choose a complete vitamin, mineral, plus folic acid tablet right away.
And if you couldn't take it at the beginning because of nausea, do it now.
It's best to take vitamin and mineral tablets for pregnant women for your whole pregnancy for your child.
Because each trimester your baby needs vitamins again.

Your baby benefits from extra vitamins and minerals throughout your entire pregnancy.
