What do you think of

Hi!
A cousin of mine was watching the show "Het Geheim van Eik" recently, and the girl's name Rekel came up in it. Since I saw it, I've fallen in love with the name. I'm having a daughter (my first child), and this name just keeps haunting my mind.
My husband thinks it's really beautiful too.
What do you all think of this name? I know the meaning might be a bit less significant, but we don't think that makes the name any less great.
What do you think? Go for it or not?
Thanks in advance for your replies. Best, ikwordmama

Quite unique but quite nice. In my ears... I think of a girl with long brown hair who is very mischievous and naughty haha..but super sweet.

Just be aware..not everyone will understand the name Rekel, but you really shouldn't care about that!!!

It's not my taste, but it does sound a bit naughty and exciting.

If it resonates with you, follow your heart! Personally, when I hear the name, I think of a cricket.. But a little cricket is a cute little creature, so yes.. Exactly as was said earlier, not everyone will find it beautiful, but that doesn't matter, it's your child after all. And it's definitely a very unique name that I probably won't hear again!

    Nice! Cool and strong-willed!

It's a name you might need to get used to at first, but it's not bad.

I personally think Rachel sounds much nicer
    when pronounced in Dutch.
It also sounds a bit like "rekel".
Rekel reminds me of "krekel" (cricket).
But follow your hearts here, of course.
    After all, it's your baby
    Greetings, Madelene

Thanks for your lovely comments. We know it's not everyone's cup of tea. Normally, we're not into unusual names either. Names that were on the list before are: Sofia Marie Mare Benthe Femke Sjors.
We also saw the name Tove, which is also quite unique and nice, but who wants to look at Tover(en) all the time? It's nice that you share what you think of Rekel. The name is still on the list.

Well, first of all, you have to like it yourself, of course, and you do. But you asked for an opinion, and I really don't think it's a good name, sorry. It reminds me too much of "krekel" (cricket) and "hekel" (trouble). I'd rather say it sounds like a name from a children's book, haha, Rekel the Cricket. I don't think it's a beautiful human name. Especially not for a girl! But again, as long as you think it's beautiful, that's what matters!

That's so cute! And if it appears in a popular kids' show, it won't be long before more kids have that name.

I personally like a change every now and then! But I’d keep in mind that kids can be pretty harsh with each other and might tease them about it... But if it feels right for you guys, then go for it, of course!

Want to throw the ball up again?
We don’t know the gender yet, but here’s a boy’s name that fits with Dean:

My husband suddenly came up with the name Dex. What do you all think?

I can’t get over it. I also think Sem is nice and it’s a real boy’s name.

Any more suggestions? We like short names.

    Oops, wrong post, sorry!

No worries! Dex goes well with Dean!

Rekel reminds me of Revan somehow.

I just go with my gut feeling when picking names. If your gut says yes, this is the name that fits our baby, then that's your name!

We have 3 kids and all three have unique names. Not or hardly ever occurring.

Dean and Dex. That would work well with a second name. So there's no confusion with the mail etc. My husband and daughter have the same initial. Because they differ in gender, it hasn't caused any problems so far.

Tove reminds me a bit of tofu. I don't think that's a very nice association...
  16. Anne-Sophie Guest #17

Sorry, but I don't think Rekel is a name.
It makes me think of the WORD rekel.
But do what you think looks nice, of course!!!
  17. sunshine Guest #18

Oh, I quickly looked up on Wikipedia what "rekel" means.. : Rekel   can refer to:

the male of various animal species; see Animal names

    a naughty boy

  18. sunshine Guest #19

Anyway, it's the term for male animals. I also read somewhere: ) Monkey head 2) Asmodeus 3) Creepy boy 4) A monkey of a boy 5) Batraaf 6) Bearsem 7) Brandal 8) Bold boy 9) Bullhound 10) Blagger 11) Rascal 12) Belhamel 13) Rebellious boy 14) Naughty boy 15) Animal 16) That beast is a belhamel (crypt.) 17) Animal of a naughty boy (crypt.) 18) Dorsende deugniet (crypt.) 19) A rascal of an animal (crypt.) 20) Gal... And in the encyclopedia I read again:

rekel noun. insult naughty boy male of the dog, fox, wolf and badger Source: WikiWoordenboek. SpellingCorrect spelled: ' rekel ' appears in the Dutch Language List of the Taalunie and in the spelling list of OpenTaal. These words start with rekel: re...

So I don't really think it's a beautiful girl's name when I read the definitions, but hey, it's not my kid haha. There has to be some difference, and if you guys think it's a beautiful name, nothing's gonna stop me! Just go for it!
