Just a quick question. Who else has experienced hyperemesis gravidarum during pregnancy? I had it in my previous pregnancy, and now my nausea is escalating so quickly that I feel like it might happen again.

Liz, I've never had it before, it sounds absolutely terrible having to vomit all the time and not being able to keep anything down. I hope it'll turn out to be less bad and that it won't become hyperemesis gravidarum again. Stay strong if it is, girl.. big hug

    Hi Liz,

If you can't keep any fluids down and metoclopramide monohydrochloride isn't working, it's time to head to the hospital early.
I've had two very tough pregnancies behind me, one with HG for nine months and the second one lasting up to 6 months.

However, 18 years ago, they handled it differently.
An IV drip for dehydration, that's what they did.

Stay strong, I know how awful it can be!

Ezzie, thank you so much for your reply. I still have some Primperan from my miscarriage. Back then, I felt a lot less awful. But geez, 6 or 9 months is such a long time. Luckily, with the first one, it only lasted until week 14. Still, I found it absolutely hellish. I’m already dreading it now, because I know what’s waiting for me. And now I’ve got a six-year-old running around who really wants to know what’s wrong with me.

But which medication is metoclopramide monohydrochloride? The first part of the name is in Primperan, but the other half isn’t.

    Mavanmi, thank you!

But otherwise, I’m really happy to be pregnant again, and I’m very aware that some people would gladly trade places if they were pregnant right now. I just hope the first trimester flies by and that I get to enjoy it thoroughly.

Yeah, I get it, Liz, but you can still share your concerns... Big hug to you, and I really hope you don't get hyperemesis gravidarum again... Pff, it's what it is, girl.

Metoclopramide is also given for severe nausea. It's also used in combination with oxycodone (morphine) and for extreme nausea after/during chemo.
I've had it for that second case.
According to doctors, it's still fairly safe.
Personally, I'll do everything I can to avoid medication during pregnancy.
Metoclopramide isn't available over the counter either.
The second time I was pregnant, I had a 3-year-old boy running around.
So I know it's really tough!
I'd gladly swap places with you, but I also know how hard it is!

    Strength!

I had it with my daughter Lara.. almost 30 weeks in and out of the hospital on an IV. Lost 17 kilos.. after the 30 weeks, food finally stayed down.. unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it. No matter how much you want to.. my second pregnancy with Senna, I didn't have any issues at all.. felt super.. strength..xx

I’ve been sick for over 10 weeks. Sometimes for whole days until 3 PM, then I’d eat in the evening and it would start up again. But I never really got anything for it! With 20 weeks, I got sick a few times again. It’s really super unpleasant, to put it mildly.

Liz, how are you doing? Are you feeling nauseous all day now?
  9. * #10

Oh no, that's terrible that you didn't get anything for it. Really sad. But now you can count down the weeks, girl and then you'll have your little miracle in your arms

Mavanmi, unfortunately I've been nauseous all day. I'm lying in bed almost all the time. I still need to eat today. I couldn't keep anything down this morning. I'm not vomiting yet, but the food just won't go down. I can't swallow it. I've actually slept all morning though. My husband is going to pick up emesefene today. I'm no longer allowed to use primperan. It's bad for the kidneys. So it's just a rough ride. There's nothing else to do. I just hope the weeks fly by.

oh dear Liz, I really hope the Emeset helps!
Make sure to eat something, big hug!
  12. :-) #13

    Hope it helps, Liz!
Otherwise, the emesafene suppositories, if you'd throw away the tablets again.
    Strength!

Ezzie, I also requested the suppositories right away. Seemed better to me too. This is nothing. Bleh.

I know all about it, it's intense and overwhelming. You're just physically nothing anymore.
But then the mind takes over again, unfortunately.
Let me know if they work?
    Good luck.
  15. Sas #16

@Liz, that's intense, are you managing to drink anything?
    You stopped working now, right?
    Take it easy!
  16. liz02 started this #17

Sas, I really am not going back to work. I can't even manage to drop my daughter off at school right now. I do try to take sips of water every time. I got really nauseous from tea yesterday. Water makes me nauseous too, but not as badly as tea.

Thank you all for listening to my complaints.
  17. :-) #18

Oh, I definitely don't see it as complaining.
You can only really empathize once you've been through it yourself! That's true for everything.

    Thank you, Ez!

No complaining, Liz. It's terrible that you're going through this, so just let it out—don't take it literally, but just share what's on your mind, okay? Big hug
