Keep losing weight, but baby is growing well.

Hey everyone. Are there any ladies who have lost weight unintentionally during pregnancy and how do you deal with it? I'm now 17 weeks pregnant and could barely eat anything for the first three months due to nausea, which caused me to lose a lot of weight. Now it's getting better, but I fill up quickly and have little appetite. I'm currently 4 kg below my starting weight and just can't gain any weight. Also, my belly is still only growing by a centimeter Fortunately, my baby is doing well and I'm not really worried about anything else, but I am curious if others experience this too. Secretly, I sometimes get a bit frustrated that my belly hasn't grown yet.

Greetings, Melody

I didn’t lose weight, so I have no experience with that, and I gained weight very, very slowly. My belly only started to show after week 20; before that, it wasn’t obvious that I was pregnant. After week 20, it grew quite quickly, and by 25 weeks, my belly had already grown quite a bit, so don’t worry, you can show off your cute bump any time

I lost 11 kilos from constantly vomiting after my birth. My mom had the same thing when she was pregnant with me. So I think everything will be fine for you too! Greetings

For me, it also took a long time before you could really see a belly. I had a real hourglass figure, so it took a long time for my belly to show with my oldest daughter. I thought that was so sad; I really wanted to show off my pregnant belly. But well, you could only see it when I was 7 months along. At the beginning of the 7th month, I was so happy and proud. And then everyone noticed right away because I’m naturally very slim. With my second pregnancy, luckily, you could see it a bit sooner that I was pregnant I never threw up, luckily, but I did get very dizzy. Tough, well, I think you could maybe try getting brown bread and other healthy fibers, for example in the form of a drinkable yogurt with grains, maybe if bread is hard to keep down or you don’t tolerate it so well. Then you get the same thing, but in the form of a drinkable breakfast. Smoothies are very important for the vitamins for your baby, and what I always took as extras during my pregnancies was Davitamon Pregnant; it has special vitamins for the baby. And what your body can also use well during pregnancy. Then you don’t have to worry about the vitamins the baby gets. Hopefully, you can show off your belly soon I wish you a nice pregnancy and hopefully, your nausea will also decrease Greetings, Madelene

Thank you all for your replies!
I’m glad I haven’t had any more vomiting for the past 2 weeks, but I still don’t have much of an appetite.
I’m indeed mainly focusing on getting enough nutrients in and taking vitamins on top of that. My diet is good, I was just curious if it took this long for your belly to show for others too. It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one
@daantje, nice to hear that everything went well for you too, despite the weight loss.

@madelene, oh my, at 7 months already then I’ll have to be patient a bit longer. Luckily we know what we’re doing this for

Hope everything is going well for you too.

My belly grew really big early on (very obvious at 6 weeks) but I was back to my starting weight by 22 weeks
As long as baby is doing well, you really don’t need to worry. Baby will take what it needs anyway, and your appetite will come back once baby is out, hehe
Wishing you a lovely pregnancy x Crumb

Hey Melody, that's great to hear that the nausea is gone. I understand you're wondering why your bump isn't showing yet, but every pregnancy is different. My bump also grew slowly, and I wasn't really showing until around week 20. As long as your weight is stable and the baby is growing well, that's all that matters. Make sure you're well-followed by your midwife.
