Hi,

Can anyone help me figure out how many weeks pregnant I’d be? I don’t remember the first day of my period anymore. My first positive test was on February 25th.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance!!!!

    Hard to say..
I think you'll only really know for sure after you've been to the doctor to get blood drawn. Then you'll know roughly how many weeks you are. The first ultrasound will show exactly how many weeks you are.

Maybe try a Clearblue test that also indicates the number of weeks?
That way you'll know a bit more.

    Thanks for your reply.

According to my last period (approximately), I should be 9 to 10 weeks along. The ultrasound shows 6 weeks. They told me to consider a miscarriage because the gestational sac is too small. But if I count myself, I only tested positive 5 weeks ago!!! I was allowed to have an ultrasound after 2 weeks.

It just doesn't add up for me. I can't possibly be 9 weeks along, max 6?

They always calculate from your last period. So that means you're always considered 2 weeks further along (even though you're not really, since the first two weeks after your period are before conception). Of course, it's possible that implantation happened later, but a difference of 3 weeks seems pretty extreme to me. Wishing you all the best!

If you buy a Clearblue digital with pregnancy indicator, it shows how many weeks pregnant you are. I bought one for my second pregnancy, and it clearly said 2 weeks pregnant.

But if it's been more than 2 weeks, that wouldn't show up on the test, I think.

But if I tested positive 5 weeks ago and add 2 weeks to that, isn't that 7 weeks? Then it would be a difference of 1 week! The ultrasound says 6 weeks.

    Pfff, what uncertainty!

Normally, you test positive around 4 weeks of pregnancy.
So 5 weeks plus 4 weeks is 9 weeks. But implantation can still make a difference. Like if you're actually 8 weeks instead of 9.

If the ultrasound says 6 weeks, I’d prepare for the worst, I know how it feels, believe me
Ultimately, the ultrasound is the final word, when are you supposed to go back?

Thanks for thinking along with me.

Then maybe it’s really not possible that I’m only 6 weeks pregnant. The gynecologist also mentioned the possibility of a miscarriage. My ultrasound is again on Thursday. But every time I go to the toilet, I’m afraid I’ll lose blood.

I thought if I tested positive on 25/02, maybe it could still be that it’s less advanced. February only had 28 days, so I tested 5 weeks ago.

Yes, Zara, he just shows the weeks you are pregnant. You also have a window that indicates when conception took place. I had that one; it showed 2 weeks pregnant. And when conception occurred, that was quite funny. But of course, he simply shows the number of weeks you are pregnant, whether it's 2 or 3 or more weeks. He shows it.

As poesh says, your pregnancy starts from your last period.
The first 4 weeks don't really count as a pregnancy.
So in fact, you're about 9 weeks pregnant.
I'm also curious when you'll be back, normally you'll go back quite soon to check how the little one is doing.

    Good luck anyway!

Zara, I don't want to take all your hope away... But I tested positive 3 weeks ago and am now 7 weeks. I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks (due to recurrent miscarriages) and the measurement showed effectively 5 weeks...
If the ultrasound said 6 weeks, and you tested positive 5 weeks before, that would mean you tested before your ovulation, which is completely impossible.
Your gynecologist also mentioned a miscarriage; I'd suggest keeping that in mind, as difficult as it may be.
I hope your gynecologist made a mistake in the measurement; in early pregnancy, that can happen. But how to balance the other side too...
    Big hug!

I have to go back for the ultrasound on Thursday at 3 PM.

Suppose I did have a late implantation, maybe?

I think my last period was around January 25th and the first positive test was on January 25th/26th.

I'm just so sad about this, but I'm trying to stay positive. If it's not okay, then it has to be that way. The gynecologist said to be prepared for the worst, but there's still a small chance... The heartbeat was there, and the baby had grown a bit more than it did two weeks prior.

Zara, my first miscarriage also started off so weirdly.. I did have bleeding. Just a short explanation:
Around 6 weeks I had bleeding, I had to go straight for an ultrasound. Lots of blood in the uterus but nothing visible, the gynecologist feared an ectopic pregnancy so I had to come back 4 days later for a final check-up, I also had to prepare myself for the worst.
I sat in tension for 4 days, without bleeding, then when I went in we saw a tiny little fetus, right on schedule with a beginning heartbeat. I was so happy. 3 weeks later I had to come back. A few days before that ultrasound I suddenly started bleeding very heavily, so heavily that I called my mom to take me to the ER, and yes, effectively a miscarriage, a few days after the previous ultrasound the fetus had stopped growing..
For the next 3 miscarriages I never saw a heartbeat, I started bleeding quite early and within a few days we knew it was another miscarriage. All between week 5 and week 6...

I completely understand your fear, even though my first miscarriage was almost 2 years ago, I can still imagine very well how you must be feeling now.
That's why I'm being honest, giving you the facts I know. Hoping that on a forum you're not left with nothing if it turns out wrong on Thursday.
Prepare yourself for the worst, then it can only get better is the best advice my gynecologist gave me then. And up until today I go into the gynecologist for an ultrasound with that thought...

What you're facing now depends a lot on what happens on Thursday.
Hopefully everything is okay for you. If not, there are different options: D&C, medication, or waiting a bit longer for it to happen naturally.

Oh my goodness, that's really tough what you've been through. Thanks for sharing.

What I find strange is that the baby had actually grown when I came for the second scan and there was a heartbeat. It's just that 6 weeks is too short. But at the first scan, they already said on 16/3 that I might have had a late implantation. If I had my first positive test 5 weeks ago and add 2 weeks to that, doesn't that make me 7 weeks pregnant? I also thought it was quite fast to get an ultrasound just 2 weeks after calling to say I was pregnant.

If you test positive, you're normally already 4 weeks along, so 5+4 would mean you're actually 9 weeks pregnant. Unless you had a late implantation, but as Poesh already said, that's not really possible in your case.. However hard it is, girl (I know exactly what you're going through right now), you should prepare yourself for a miscarriage, as your gynecologist said.. There's a difference of 3 weeks.. That's just too big in my opinion.. Of course I hope everything turns out okay in the end, I'm rooting for you..

Oh my, so much is going through my head right now... I hope secretly everything is okay... I really feel pregnant and have the signs!!! And the heartbeat was there on Thursday..... What a rotten feeling and I still have to wait until Thursday.....

Maybe I could be 7 weeks pregnant, I hope....

Hi Zara, I wouldn't worry too much about it; it won't help you at all. And if you are pregnant, these nerves aren't good for the little one either.
Just go by your intuition. If it really feels like a pregnancy and you notice the signs as you yourself mention, then dare to trust it a bit.
Trust your intuition and your own mind.
    Good luck with everything.
Come on, trust your feelings more
    Have a nice evening
    Greetings, Madelene
