toddler playgroup

Hi moms,

Our little boy is turning 2 in May and will start going to the toddler playgroup, initially for 2 half-days, with plans to expand to 3 later.

I think it's great for him and I can also see that they're ready to hang out with the other kids.

Does anyone have experience with this and also sends their child to the playgroup? How did the first time go?

My son doesn't really drink water (hihi) and not much tea either. He does drink fruit juice, which helps.

I mean, of course, fruit that saves money.

    Hi Irma,

My little girl turned 2 in October and started attending two half-days a month in November.
At first, I thought it was too much because all the new impressions were very tiring for her.
Normally, she hardly ever cries when I leave, but now she climbed all over me at goodbye (very difficult!!). After a small month, this passed and she really enjoys it now. She talks a lot about the things she did at the toddler playgroup, the teachers, and the other kids. At our place, they all bring their own cup with juice or something similar.

The teachers are very kind and, besides the children, also give a lot of attention/time to the parents.
I'm happy with the choice we made!

    Good luck

Yes, it's definitely a transition for both mom and baby, hihi.
Another new step, right? Now there's water or tea, but hey, they say that by doing it together, they learn.

Same with fruit—Dean is a fruit eater, others aren't, but it'll work out fine.

    Hi Irma,
my youngest daughter had a hard time adjusting on the first day. I brought her with my husband, but it didn’t work out—she was really clingy and kept looking at me to make sure I wasn’t leaving. Now she’s such a mama’s girl, which probably has something to do with it, hehe. Also so cute.

But she kept pulling at me and didn’t want to let go, crying when I left. When I came to pick her up, the teacher said she really wanted to sit on someone’s lap and got tired very quickly.

But the next day, I decided that only my husband would bring her while I went to work. And that went better. So she gradually got used to it, but she really needed her cuddly toy to take with her—that helped.

My oldest daughter was very different; she went straight to the toys and playing on the first day. She didn't even notice when my husband left and was having a great time right away. Only the teacher said she wasn't singing along with the songs, as if she wasn't used to it.
But anyway, what you say about water is very relatable. My girls didn't drink water either. Now they're preschoolers and still don't.
They just got syrup there, and they took that into account.
At home, the only one who drinks water is my husband. I never got water as a kid either; it wasn't something I was used to at home.
So my princesses don't like it either.
No problem though, if you mention it there, they can take that into account.
And give them something like lemonade.
    Exciting, this first time

    Hi Irma,

My little boy found it a bit difficult the first few times when I left, and there were some tears, but now he waves me off very sweetly. Coincidentally, I opened a thread about this on the forum yesterday. He likes it so much now that he wants to stay longer and gets upset when we have to go home.

Our little boy goes two mornings a week. One morning we have to bring a fruit snack that they all share (they get lemonade or water there), and the other morning we don't need to bring anything; they get a cookie and something to drink.

I do notice that it's good for him and he really enjoys going, so I would definitely recommend it.

He'll probably enjoy it, but he'll cry too.
He does that when I leave now, hehe, but it's over after 2 or 3 minutes. He's such a mama's boy.

It'll be fine, I just have a fear of water, and he has to drink anyway.

Hi Irma, that’s weird. Shouldn’t the daycare take that into account?
They did the same with my little girls.
Otherwise, you’re bringing your own lemonade, which I don’t think is very nice for your son if he has to drink it when he doesn’t like it.
Otherwise, don’t you ask if they can give him syrup or another drink?
Or if you’re allowed to bring your own pack of drinks?
I wouldn’t be able to accept it if the daycare made a fuss about it. It should stay fun.

    I'll ask again by then.
We're still getting some paper info, etc., but we've visited two places and both said tea and water.
But seeing and doing it together seems to help, just like parents say: "My child doesn't eat fruit, but if there's fruit around, no problem, he'll eat it." Haha.

Anyway, I think it's nice for Dean. A week after his birthday, he'll start, just two half-days.

That's nice, Irma. She'll surely feel comfortable there. Enjoy playing with the other kids.
My daughters also did part-time (2 days) at first.
Then we asked the health center if she could do 4 days. They wrote a letter for us and then it became 4 days.

    Hi Irma,

I think it'll be totally fine with your little boy drinking water.
My niece used to seriously only drink those pyjama-pap drinks all day long, and ate and drank nothing else. Now she's been at the toddler playgroup for a year and you won't believe it, she drinks water, eats fruit and bread.. for them it's really a world of difference.

Good luck it'll definitely work out!
