Little brother doesn't want to be a godbrother... sad and angry at the same time

I understand that you're really sad about the news from your little brother. But what I read in your post is that he has thought it over well and still comes to the conclusion that he doesn't think it's a good idea right now. Telling you and explaining it must have been hard too.
I think it's ultimately better for your child to have a godparent who is 100% committed.
That doesn't mean I don't understand that you really don't like it and that you're feeling sad about it. Even without pregnancy hormones, it's tough news; now it hits extra hard.
Try to put it aside and enjoy yourself!

I get that this hurts you, but try to also reflect on how your brother felt during all the unpleasant things you had to go through... You always bring along "victims" who have also suffered. And you're now at a point where you feel completely fine and happy, but he might still have a lot of sadness/pain/distrust from what happened. He did want to make up, but this is probably too much and too fast. I'd try to respect that. He's not doing this to hurt or bully you; there's really a good reason behind it. But a man can't always articulate that clearly, and he didn't handle it smartly by doing it via text.

So I'd let it sink in. You can come back to it later and calmly explain that you find it really sad and disappointing that he didn't discuss it with you personally. But not in a fighting way, just an open conversation where you calmly talk about your feelings...

    Good luck!

That’s tough news, but on the other hand, it’s really brave of him not to just accept the proposal if he’s not behind it. You’ve both been through so much—you went through incredibly tough years, and your surroundings did too. Addiction destroys a lot, and you’ve all suffered greatly from it, so I won’t even begin to tell you how hard that must have been...

There are probably many things in his processing journey that you don’t know about, just as he can’t fully grasp what you’ve been through. He’s not ready for it right now, but that doesn’t have to stand in the way of your happiness. He’ll still be your daughter’s uncle, and what matters most is that you’re both in each other’s lives. He’ll love her just as much even if he’s not her godfather. Choose another godfather who’s truly willing to step up right now, and let him know you understand he can’t do it at this moment. Maybe you should also give him some space and hold off on asking anyone else?

I know you’re hurt right now, but give him that space anyway... That’s my well-intentioned advice to you.

I also don't think it's so weird that he honestly says he doesn't want to do this. I understand you find it sad, but angry? Maybe it's better to talk about it again, because what is expected of a godfather.. My husband and I were once asked to be guardians in case something happened to the parents, and I wasn't on board with that either. My husband initially thought it was no big deal until I asked him if he would work less to take care of them. Then it became a different story..
