    No, I know several Nel's (great)grandma, aunt, let's say... family names, from a few generations back. That's why I think it's old-fashioned/dated... Not really of this time!
    Jelena, honestly, I don't find beautiful either, but better than Nel.....

    Nel is a bit old-fashioned.

    Jelena is a beautiful name for a girl, feminine, charming, really a lovely and pretty name for a daughter.
    Nel sounds absolutely dreadful, old-fashioned, doesn't flow well, and I picture an old woman when I hear it.

    If you like short names, I’d go for Nola or something similar instead of Nel. Jelena is beautiful too!

    Neither is really my taste, but if I had to choose, Jelena. I'd rather go for Selena or, as mentioned earlier, Nola.
