Pregnant without a belly

Lies
haha good question! no idea sometimes if women are very slim themselves...and sometimes the baby (the uterus) is positioned a bit further back in your body....that's what a colleague of mine told me who also hardly had a belly at all, with all three of her kids. Oh and maybe if someone is quite heavy/chubby there's enough room and the belly doesn't have to bulge out as much? Or that it's less noticeable then?

Those are the only options I know or can think of

    @nina and lies,

    I do know a story with absolutely no belly and yet she gave birth to a healthy son. Every month she followed her rules, really, and gave birth on Dec 10, 2014.. She had no belly and didn't even know she was pregnant..,
    Went to the out-of-hours doctor's office because she had severe stomach pain, and 20 minutes later her son was born...

    @MavanMi
    You don't mean it!! Bizarre story.... I guess she got quite a fright I heard about one like this once when I had a side job. One of those girls (she was quite big) didn't know she was pregnant either...suddenly stomach pain and then it turned out she was having contractions. I've always wondered if she really didn't know or if she was too scared to tell, because the father wasn't in the picture....it's obviously a tricky situation then!

    I think I can't avoid a baby bump

    @lies,

    Definitely, she scared herself silly,
    And had to get used to the fact that she had a baby all of a sudden..
    I hope she still tells her story because she's a chatty little friend of mine
    I certainly won't escape a belly if I get pregnant

    Our neighbor only found out after more than 4 months. She still got her period normally; she thought she had just put on a bit of weight, but blamed it on stress and eating a lot. At one point, she apparently noticed something and her sister told her to take a test. She found it strange because she had her period every month like clockwork. I never saw her with a big belly! She now has a funny little boy! And what Lies said is true; sometimes they lie further back, so you don't see it much.

    Wow, what stories!! You'd better not suddenly have a baby without knowing anything about it. (Thankfully) I do have the usual symptoms, and that's how you see that you should always do a test, haha.

    On TV, there's this series: "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant."
    I find those stories absolutely incredible!!! Sometimes I'm watching and I think: how could you not suspect you were pregnant!! But sometimes there are women with not a single clue or symptom.
    And I find that so strange....I'm now 11 weeks pregnant and since week 5 I've had a whole range of pregnancy ailments. My regular pants don't even fit anymore....It's truly unbelievable that there are women out there who really have none of this.

    It must be such a shock to go to the doctor with stomach pain and then find out you're going to have a baby!!!
    You're completely unprepared....mentally, but also without any supplies or stuff....
    No, better for me to be as well-prepared as possible for what's coming.

    Yeah, bizarre right!! But what often goes wrong is that women trust their period too much. It's more common than you'd think that women still bleed monthly even when they're pregnant, and once they see they're "on their period," they assume they're automatically not pregnant. So as Nina also says, it's better to take a test if you have any doubts. It's more reliable than your body unfortunately; your body can play tricks on you haha! But not having a belly at all, I also find that so strange! I had quite a bump, really quickly too!

    A 17-year-old niece of mine didn't know she was pregnant. She went to the hospital with stomach pain and came home with a baby boy. I saw her two weeks before her due date, and she had barely gotten any bigger (but who doesn't fluctuate in weight these days?). She had a very irregular cycle and had some spotting now and then. After 6 months, she finally took a pregnancy test, but by then there wasn't enough hCG hormone left in her blood to get a positive result, so it was completely ruled out. That was quite a shock!!

    If my gynecologist hadn't noticed during my annual check-up that there happened to be an egg ready to pop, I wouldn't have dared to guess that I was pregnant. I'm currently 4 months along, and due to PCOS, I only get my period once or twice a year (so missing periods isn't exactly new to me), and there's no baby bump showing yet. Hopefully, it stays small until delivery so I can bring a healthy little one into the world. That would save me some money on a new wardrobe.

    I wonder... how does it work when your baby moves in your belly? You can't tell me you think it's your intestines With my first one, you could even see the little foot clearly! (More than 19 years ago though)
  12. Gast Guest #13

    It's totally possible! Every body is different, and especially if you've never been pregnant before, you might not recognize the movements. Some people don't feel them at all, especially if the placenta is positioned in front. I'm now pregnant with my fourth baby and haven't felt any kicks during any of my four pregnancies, yet all four babies have been born healthy and well. So it really can happen. And I don't even have a very big belly, and I'm already almost six months along, so yes, it's possible.

    It's quite strange that some people don't feel anything at all. It's probably due to body shape, because for me it's impossible not to see anything with a size 36. My sister-in-law is a sturdy woman, and you really didn't see anything in the first month with her but she clearly felt her baby moving. Now, every body is indeed different. But I find it very strange that your baby has been still for all those months. And the rumbling in your belly or a baby kicking is worlds apart. But miracles do happen
  14. Faile #15

    If your placenta is anterior and the baby is lying a bit further back than usual, you really won't feel anything.
    Besides, if you get your period every month... what reason would there be to think you're pregnant?
  15. Cilia Guest #16

    That you don't immediately recognize it as being pregnant, like when you get your period... although this is still a different kind of bleeding than your actual period. I can still come in.
    But there comes a period, especially around 7 or 8 months... no. And then also no belly. Then you have to be quite blind to yourself if you still don't see it.
    Isn't a normally thinking person not so naive?
  16. Gast Guest #17

    Everyone carries a pregnancy differently, and no, I really don't feel any movement yet, but my little girl is still in there and doing just fine. My midwife also says my placenta is positioned in front and she's lying a bit towards the back, so it's totally possible. I don't really have a big belly either, but she's definitely in there.

    And no, I'm not that strict with myself. I'm a size 38 after 3 kids, and I've got a nice waist. I think I should be proud of myself, if I do say so myself, hihihi.
