Hi,

My baby was just born and her name is Ami (pronounced like Aamie, not Amy). However, almost everyone reacts strangely to the name Ami and always pronounces it as Amy (the English version). Now I'm thinking about changing her name to Amika. I think it sounds nice too. What do you all think of the name Amika, and does it sound better as Ami?

    I'd just stick with Ami—it's your first choice, and people will get used to it anyway.

    Ami! Lovely name!!! Don't start doubting!
    Just stick with Ami! It's what you think that matters, right?!
    Our daughter also has a "unique" name... Some people had to get used to it... We still think it's a beautiful name and I've never regretted it for a moment! I wouldn't change it for that reason either!
    For example, I find unique names much nicer than names you hear all the time, with 2 or 3 in every class!
    So many people, so many opinions!
    I'd just follow my own plan!

    Well, indeed, let them get used to it. Never change yourself because others think something is weird or whatever. You like the name, and that's what matters. Always think of yourself, not others!!! And besides, I think it's a super cute name!!

    I don't think Amika is beautiful, but that's just my opinion. Ami is prettier.
