Hi hi,

I've been trying to get pregnant for about 3 months now. But I do have quite a bit of excess weight, which isn't great when trying to conceive, and lately I've been feeling less than great in my own skin. When I think about all the weight that will come on during pregnancy and all the women who look beautiful while pregnant, while I'm probably the one people will think has just gotten chubby... I really want to lose some weight. The only problem is I lack the perseverance for this. I've been hearing a lot about the Modifast diet from people around me lately, but I'm not keen on replacing 3 meals with shakes. I'd try doing it with 2 replacements and 1 normal meal. But is this advisable when trying to conceive? Does anyone here have experience with dieting, or could recommend a good diet? (Preferably one with quick results, as I'm more likely to stick with it if the results come faster rather than slowly.)

Greetings and thanks in advance,
xxx

In my opinion, diets don’t work. You often don’t get enough nutrients, and once you start eating normally again (whatever that means for you), all the weight comes back.
Especially if you’re still trying to get pregnant, losing weight and dieting is not a good idea anyway.
If I were you, I’d try eating healthier. That way, you’ll at least get enough nutrients in case you suddenly get pregnant, and you’ll probably lose some weight too.

I did the Cambridge diet, it works really well and you're guided by a dietitian. You can choose which program you follow, so also how many fixed meals and whether you take a replacement per day. Just Google it. Good luck!

I didn’t follow a diet but I did buy a diet recipe book. It was called the GI diet... it has really mega delicious recipes! So it’s easy to stick to. The important thing is just 3 meals a day, two snacks (fruit or something healthy), and rearranging the proportions on your plate: 50% vegetables, 25% pasta or potatoes, and 25% meat. 1x serving, maybe on a smaller plate, and eat slowly. Drink lots of water during the day... something like 2 liters, and avoid fatty foods and lots of sugar. Treat yourself once a week to fries, chips, or pizza. That way you appreciate it even more... and try to move around a bit... I think the important thing is that you change your eating pattern... it takes longer, but it’s healthier and that way you keep your weight off more easily and for longer. I lost 15 kg in 1.5 years... it’s slow... but I had absolutely no trouble with it and it’s now happening automatically... I keep losing weight... well... not anymore because I’m now 9 weeks pregnant. But I still eat the same. I just counted it all up at once and now I have a healthy BMI... with my first pregnancy it took 8 months before I got pregnant and I was overweight... a too-high BMI. Maybe you can use this? But I think wanting to lose weight quickly isn’t the best idea... heeeel veel success!
