Knot in throat/esophagus?!

Hi!

I woke up this morning feeling like something's stuck in my esophagus. But it doesn't go away with drinking or eating. Sometimes it feels a bit better, but it never fully goes away and is sometimes painful.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it serious or just a typical pregnancy complaint?

Thanks in advance.

Do you also suffer from acid reflux? It could be that the acid reflux has irritated your esophagus or something similar.

Eat and drink small amounts, avoid anything too acidic, and just wait and see in that case.

Nope, although I do often feel nauseous and sometimes throw up my food in the evening, but that's definitely not every day.

So according to you, there's no need to run to the GP right away, right?

If you're feeling worried, I'd definitely suggest popping by your GP or calling your midwife.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's some irritation in your esophagus or throat. But that's really just a guess. Just listen to your instincts!

I've already called my GP, and he reassured me that it's probably hidden reflux. So just a little ailment... Taking Motilium for about 3 days before meals should bring some relief. I hope so!

Thanks, and it was indeed a good guess from you :-)

    Hi there,

That sounds really unpleasant! I had that for a whole day last week and ended up seriously throwing up in the evening (I'd never had to throw up before and I'm now 19 weeks pregnant). After that, I finally started feeling better again... I thought I'd eaten something wrong or that my uterus was pressing on my intestines... Anyway, I haven't had any issues with it since then. Hopefully, you'll feel better soon too...

    Best wishes

    Hi Nathalie,

Glad it wasn't anything serious (though obviously still unpleasant).

You could also try eating small amounts more regularly. Prop your bed up a bit and drink regularly. I was hesitant to take medication during my own pregnancy.

As far as I know, Motilium hasn't been well studied in pregnant women, so I wouldn't use it too quickly.

I'm 16 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing this throughout the whole pregnancy, and indeed, as you said, lots of nausea and vomiting in the evenings. Now it's finally starting to improve. I haven't used any medication either; it's just part of it. Hopefully, it won't last too much longer for you. Greetings!

    Hey,

I'm doing better now, it's not over yet but it's getting there. I didn't use Motilium, I rarely take medication anyway and wanted to put it off even more. I think it also had to do with vomiting, then some (hidden) reflux on top of that and yeah...
The pain and strange feelings during the day are already much less now and I'm glad about that.

    Greetings.

Ugh. Almost 12 weeks but for the past 4 days I've been really, really nauseous! Especially in my throat. I've been feeling nauseous since week 5 but it seems to be getting worse now.. I'm so tired from it

Hi, I recognize the symptoms. I went to the doctor and got stomach tablets for it. Omeprazole... it really helps and at least I can eat something again.
