Hi ladies,

Today I'm 40 weeks and 5 days pregnant. It feels like it's never going to happen. Although everyone says you should keep busy and not just sit around waiting, that's unfortunately impossible. I'm starting to get worried too. She's still moving well, but still. I've seen in my circle twice before that the baby's heartbeat stopped in the last weeks. So I really, really want it to start.
If it doesn't start on its own, the midwife will strip my membranes on Monday, and if necessary, I'll be induced the following weekend. But the worries remain... is this relatable to anyone?

Hi Esther, we always agreed with our midwife that we didn't want to go past our due date because of the associated risks. At 40 weeks, they would have induced labor. Luckily, that didn't happen twice, but it shows how we feel about it. If I were you, I'd make an appointment with an OB-GYN today for a second opinion. I'd definitely have them monitor how much amniotic fluid you have left and whether the blood flow to the placenta is all good. That gives you a much better basis to decide whether to wait until Monday to strip the membranes or if it might be smarter to have the baby induced this weekend.

    Love, Nienke
