Big baby wish

Hi everyone,
I'm Dominique and I'm 21 years old. I've been in a stable relationship with my boyfriend (26) for 2.5 years. I've wanted kids since I was 18. But now I have a big problem: my boyfriend isn't sure if he's ready for it. I really don't know what to do. I'm afraid to push him too hard and drive him away, but I also can't just let it drop, worried that it'll take years before I finally get my biggest wish fulfilled.
Help!

Unfortunately, you need to be two to start this process. Keep talking to each other as a couple. Do you know why he’s not ready yet? Maybe a bit scared of the unknown? It’s not just any baby, there’s a lot of hope involved. Hopefully, you’ll figure it out together and won’t have to wait too long to start making your dearest wish come true Wishing you lots of strength and success.

    Hi Dominique,

I'm 21 myself and my boyfriend is 26.
For example, we've agreed to start trying for a baby in a year.
Now we both know where we stand and he can prepare himself, which he thought was the most important thing.

I was already thinking about it earlier than my partner. We've talked about it a lot here and made agreements together. I understand that, of course, it's not something you just do lightly. My partner and I had agreed to start trying in a year. But he changed his mind, and we're already actively trying to conceive. Good communication and listening to each other. Give him some time too.

    Hey Dominique!

    Tough situation..
I'm 23 myself, just like my boyfriend.
And I knew very early on that I wanted kids,
and also that I wanted to be a young mom.
24 seemed like a nice age for the first one.. and still does.
My boyfriend and I had a lot of talks back then,
so I told him I wanted kids.
I first asked him what age he thought was nice,
and to my surprise, we were on the same page.
We're moving in together in a few weeks, and then hopefully a little miracle will happen.

What you can do best is talk about it again.
Not too pushy, and not too enthusiastic. (Hard not to be enthusiastic if you want it yourself, I totally get it!)
But calmly ask how he would like it.
When he would like to start having kids.
Is it tied to an age, a study that still needs to be finished,
a driver's license that still needs to be obtained, or maybe your boyfriend wants to save up some extra money first?!

My boyfriend also noticed to me that something was off, because I didn't want to talk about it too much.
He started a conversation on his own, and after explaining a few times, he understood how sensitive it is,,
and how big the desire is.
He also admitted that even though he wants it a lot, he finds it very nerve-wracking too.
But then you can explain that you feel the same and he's not alone in this
You can also ask for clarity, and as I've read more here, set a time.
A fixed date is hard, but say within 2 years. That's what we did,
and that probably gives you some peace of mind too.
In that time, you can chat nicely with people who are in the same boat, and look around for cute names and baby rooms

Lots of success and let me know if you've had a chat?

    Love xx
