Are there any vegan moms here? Do you notice that you gain weight less easily or that your breasts don’t grow as much? I’d love to hear about others’ experiences.

Hi Izzara, I'm not a veggie mom, let alone that—I really eat meat every day with my meal, and the kids do too.
But what I was curious about is: if you're pregnant and don't eat meat, do you take vitamin supplements, like vitamin B? I think that's what's in meat, right?
So even if you don't eat meat, you still get the vitamins and minerals that are in meat through vitamin tablets, right?
    Just out of pure curiosity.
    Greetings, Madelene

Sounds pretty hard to me! I'm just vegetarian so I don't have any experience. Should you maybe get your blood drawn more often to see if there are any deficiencies?
I'm now 16 weeks and have gained 1 kilo. Not a lot, but mainly because I've been very nauseous and still often only have an appetite for savoy cabbage...
    Good luck anyway!

Honestly, being vegan and pregnant doesn't seem like such a great combination to me. Besides talking to your midwife, I'd definitely chat with a dietitian too. And consider whether you might want to eat some animal products (eggs and/or dairy) for a while. Humans are naturally omnivores, and although we can manage for a long time on plant-based food alone, it's not what our bodies are made for. That can eventually lead to problems.

Madelene, you mean vitamin B12. That's really important to take if you're vegan (even if you're not pregnant). You have a large store of it in your body, but if it suddenly runs out (after years), you become deathly ill and exhausted. And then it's hard to fix it quickly. Some vegans also take, for example, one organic egg a week to supplement vitamin B12.

I'm already taking vitamin B12. I'll definitely talk to a dietitian, but I don't have any deficiencies myself
