reimbursement for outpatient childbirth

Hi, I have a quick question. I'm looking into health insurance for next year (hopefully I'll be pregnant by then), and I see that most insurers have a statutory deductible of around €200–€300 for a natural birth without medical indication, but this can be covered by supplementary insurance. I've heard that a hospital birth already costs around €500. Do you still have to pay a few hundred euros extra on top of the deductible coverage?

    Hi,
I heard that a hospital birth costs around 350 euros. I can't find it anywhere.
If it really costs 500, you still have to pay a few hundred euros extra besides the contribution from your own expense,,, and you're already paying so much for that

Yeah, that's a shame. It's already so expensive
    Thank you for your response!
    And congratulations on your pregnancy

    Hi ladies,
if you have supplementary insurance, like I do with Zilveren Kruis, then the out-of-pocket cost is 0 euros anyway.
    Kind regards

    Hi Cauldron,

According to the gynecologist, you need to make sure your delivery is medically managed. In other words: state that you need pain relief, then you'll have a medical delivery and your health insurance will cover it.

It depends on your supplementary package @SweetSteffie; not all supplementary insurance plans cover outpatient births. For example, with my insurer, only the more expensive (family) packages cover it.

Gjk; yes, it's scandalous if I'm being completely honest haha. If you don't need or want any pain relief at all, you're taking unnecessary risks just to give birth for free. That wouldn't be my choice.

I also recently opened a topic about health insurance... I hope to get pregnant next year and want to be well insured then, especially since I want to give birth in a hospital.

As far as I've been able to find out, a hospital birth without medical indication costs around 320 euros. You can get supplementary insurance, which sometimes covers up to 200 euros and sometimes the full amount. However, I find the supplementary insurances that cover the full amount very expensive, around 125 to 140 euros per month. In that case, you might as well save up the amount yourself and pay for the birth

Besides that, the basic package already covers a lot (except for a maternity pack worth 30 euros, the co-payment for midwife care, and the hospital birth without medical indication). So you could also choose the basic package for 108 euros and then save up yourself for the birth. Because if it turns out to be medically necessary after all, it will be covered, and you'd have the supplementary insurance "for nothing" (take this sentence with a grain of salt never for nothing, but a waste if you don't need it). If it's on your savings account, you can buy something nice for the little one instead of the insurance having it!

I never really thought about it before; I could have easily given birth at home, but I chose to have my baby in the hospital. I found the whole setup at home too much hassle. It was nice and easy in the hospital. And the costs, well, that's just how it is. Better than all that hassle at home. But I don't even remember exactly how much I had to pay. By the way, I didn't get any pain medication because unfortunately, I was already too far dilated when I arrived at the hospital.

Hi! I don't think it's much use calculating how much you'll spend on a birth, because it can turn out completely differently than you expect. Maybe you start labor medically and don't have to pay anything extra, or you give birth so quickly that you end up delivering at home... anything can happen... but just saying, if you're insured, you can never regret not having done it.

Suppose you need physiotherapy or something... then you'll be glad you have supplementary insurance...

Good luck with choosing, and I hope you'll be pregnant and give birth next year!

What you're saying makes sense too; you never know how things will go.
During my second pregnancy, it went so quickly that my midwife asked why I hadn't chosen a home birth.
She said I could consider it for a third time since labor was so fast.
But yeah, you just never know beforehand.
    Greetings, Madelene
