Happy but also scared

My partner and I found out on Friday that we're pregnant with our first baby. We were obviously over the moon, but pretty soon anxiety hit me hard. I keep getting horror scenarios in my head, like the heartbeat isn't there or something else is wrong and I'll miscarry. We really, really want this baby, and I'm even scared that the three positive tests were false. Is this normal? Do other women here also struggle with this fear?

I'd love to hear from you!!!!

    Hi hi!
First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy!
It’s totally normal, I’ve got it too.
I’m getting my first ultrasound on December 2nd. I’m also worried it might not be okay.
It’s really exciting, we’ll just have to wait and see, but if something’s wrong, I think it’s usually better if the body naturally rejects it.
We’re just going to assume the best and hope everything’s fine! Once we’ve had the ultrasound and hear the heartbeat, it’ll be pure bliss!

Yes, definitely! We can only hope that after the ultrasound everything is okay, haha! I definitely feel pregnant now—I'm quite emotional, nauseous in the mornings, and often wake up with terrible back pain. I hope our ultrasounds go well too.

Yes, indeed, December 2nd we have the ultrasound. I'm excited, that'll be 8 weeks! When did you have yours?

We have our first ultrasound on December 4th, so we'll be about 8 or 9 weeks pregnant. I'm really quite nervous, and it feels like it's taking so long

I can't wait to hear a healthy little heartbeat!
Are you already experiencing any discomfort?

So far just really tired, nothing else. Fortunately.
    Hope it stays that way.
And you? Do you feel a bit better?
My last pregnancy, I was really throwing up a lot until week 15, but fortunately not this time.

Oh, that's a relief! I'm really struggling with constipation, I have some cramps in my belly, and indeed, I'm getting tired very quickly. My boyfriend finds it funny that I'm already so affected by my emotions and cry so easily.

Congratulations!! That's great for you both. I know that fear well, and it's totally normal. But every time you hear the baby's heartbeat during the check-ups, you know everything is okay. I'd say take it easy and enjoy your pregnancy.

Hi Nikki, thanks for your reply! I also think that fear comes from the fact that this is our first baby, so I wouldn't know what to expect either, and I can't really imagine what it's like yet since I haven't had an ultrasound! I even keep having dreams about it not ending well. But my boyfriend says that since you're very young, the chance of a miscarriage is also nil. I try to just hold on to that and look forward to December 4th!!!

Hi! I’ve never really had anxiety about whether everything would be okay or stuff like that, but I can totally understand if you do.

Try to push those thoughts away and trust your body. Also try to think positively and believe that your baby chose you to be born—that might sound a bit woozy or spiritual, but it really helps build trust that everything is fine.

Try to connect with your baby early in your pregnancy because your baby is already connected to your emotions and thoughts. So try to think about how happy you are to carry this baby, how happy you are for their arrival, and that they are welcome. These are all things your baby can feel, which brings a sense of calm.

Make room for positive thoughts and try to toss out negative thoughts and fears.

Wishing you lots of luck in your pregnancy!

    Best, Madelene
