3D ultrasound, should I do it or not?

We're debating whether to get a 3D ultrasound. We'd really love to do it, I think, but it's pretty expensive.

Has anyone here had experience with it? Did you find it amazing or a bit disappointing?

Thanks in advance,

Eefje

    Hi Eefje,

We got a 3D ultrasound by chance (the sonographer had to practice), but to be honest, it didn't add much for me. I know some people are really excited about it, but I wasn't.

    Hey,
personally, I wouldn't do it either.
We got a 3D ultrasound from our gynecologist without even asking for it. Turns out they can do that, and we didn't have to pay extra!

    Hi,

I'm now pregnant with our second little one (just 9 weeks), and we're already sure we're going to get a "pretecho" again at 25 weeks.
We did it for the first one too. You get completely different images than with the standard ultrasounds.
Later on, we want to give them to the kids.
In short: we were very enthusiastic and felt it definitely added value. Plus, you get to see your baby a bit more after the 20-week scan. Well, a bit... we got to enjoy our little girl for almost 45 minutes!

    Good luck with your decision!

Had here a 3D ultrasound done and I found it a super experience. Would do it again right away. It also gives a completely different image than a regular ultrasound.

Thank you all for your replies. Exactly 50-50 :-) I think we'll go ahead with it anyway. I've become more and more curious about it after thinking it over.

    Thank you all!

    Hi Eefje,

We're still really torn. It's not about the money, but because you're exposing your baby to all those sound waves again. I read something recently that suggested the baby might not have found it entirely comfortable, but I don't remember where anymore :-(

We both had our kids do a 3D ultrasound, and I'm glad we did.

    Hi ladies,
I always wanted to do it, and even before I got pregnant, I had it in mind. But recently I've read and heard a lot that it's not really good for the baby, and that there are radioactive waves involved... Now honestly, I don't need it anymore! I'm already so happy with a regular ultrasound, and seeing it move and hearing the little heartbeat is enough for me.

But of course, I'm not against women who do choose to have it done. Everyone's choice, obviously.

I wish you all a lovely pregnancy.

    Warm regards,

Not sure if it's necessarily bad for your baby.
If you go to the OB more often, you get another ultrasound anyway, so that's also an ultrasound.

I did it during my first pregnancy. Loved it. Because our daughter kept covering her face with her hand, I was allowed to come back for another one later.

Now, during this pregnancy, I'd really like to do it again, even though I'm getting 2-3 ultrasounds a week...

I hear from everyone that they love it, but there are also babies that still have a lot of trouble with the sound waves being emitted (they become restless, for example). A normal ultrasound takes max 20 minutes and a 3D ultrasound already quickly takes half an hour. This is also something to take into account in your decision.

    @ Lexy,

I know, I don't know if it's harmful or harmless for the baby. I just wanted to make it clear that it's not a must for me.

    Greetings

I'm no doctor either, of course, but I can't imagine it's super harmful. Otherwise, it wouldn't be promoted so much, not even in zh and at vk practices!
But hey, everyone's got their own thing!

    Greetings!

I wouldn't choose it myself, but I do understand why some people do...
I have to be honest, I don't really like the images of it, it looks a bit weird to me....and it's still nice that it's still a real surprise when your baby is born, they can find out so much nowadays...

I'll keep dreaming about how beautiful our baby is....good luck!!!
    greetings, alien
