A tough choice

From your story, I gather that you already know the answer yourself. And with a baby and studies on top of that, it’s going to be tough. Your boyfriend has probably told you what it boils down to. I think it’s really going to be very heavy. But it depends on what kind of study program you want to do: home study, evening classes, or daytime classes.

You really need your boyfriend’s support. He’d get less attention too, and he’d have to take on more household chores.

I’d say figure everything out for yourself. Which study program, which format, how many years, how you’re going to combine it with your baby and possibly pregnancy and newborn. And whether you can take time off temporarily because of the birth. And how you’re going to manage it financially.

Good luck with your decision!

Hi! Just me, tja, it's actually quite difficult. Both you and your partner have a point.

I totally get you; your son is already 5, so he's not too small when you start a second one, which helps. Because I can tell you: the smaller the age gap, the more intense it is with 2 little ones.

But it also depends a bit on the child himself. Is he already somewhat independent at 5, or does he still need a lot of attention? All these things play a role. If he still demands a lot of attention, then it might be harder.

Of course, it's entirely your own decision, but I can also understand your partner. A man usually looks at things from a practical perspective. In his eyes, it's not so practical right now. In practice, it's tough with 2 kids. Now, it depends on how independent your son already is.

But I think you should put things in order: do you have childcare that can help, or can your partner also help? Because that's also important, especially regarding your studies. Otherwise, I'd think about your studies first and maybe postpone it a bit, however difficult that may be.

It should remain fun for both of you.

    Greetings, Madelene
