Just keep thinking about pregnancy and how long it can take.

hihi
my boyfriend and I want to have a baby, our first child. We threw away the pill, Microgynon 30, in July. Now I really have a lot of symptoms, but I've already had my period 3 times, and last month I was even 2 weeks late and the test was negative. And now I just keep thinking about it every day, hoping I'm pregnant. Is that normal?? And how long did it take for you guys?

First off: it can take a long time. But since July, it hasn't been that long yet.

Just assume you need to "un-pill" for about three months, as they call it. July, August, and September. Now it's October, so this is your first month where you can seriously expect something, although the pill can still have its influence. But let's say it can happen from now on, then there's no reason at all to worry.

More than half of couples are pregnant within six months. And even if it doesn't happen within six months, there doesn't need to be a problem. That's when it's time to take a closer look: start using ovulation tests, keep a temperature chart, and make sure you're not doing too much sport, but enough. This way, you'll get insight into your cycle and can check if ovulation is happening and if you've been timing things correctly. Only after a year should you contact your GP. That's when almost all healthy couples have already succeeded, and then it's reasonable to look into other causes. Until then? Don't stress.

It's not surprising that you're experiencing all sorts of symptoms now. Not only does your body change after stopping the pill, but you're also constantly on alert: you want to be pregnant and interpret every movement of your intestines and every twinge in your uterus as a possible sign. You're not alone in this. In fact, most women trying to conceive experience this.

Ah, thank you so much, that puts my mind at ease a bit. Yeah, it's true, it's not been very long, it's only 3 months, and I've had quite a stressful couple of months because my dad suddenly passed away. Thanks for the info, and it does make sense that you start thinking you're pregnant over every little thing when you really want to be.
