Noël or Noel

We want to name our child Noël. We're unsure about the spelling. Preferably without the diaeresis, but is it pronounced correctly then? We don't want them to call her Nol or Noel or No-wul. Secondly, how important is the meaning of that name?

First off, a lovely name, Noël/Noel.
With a diaeresis, the e naturally gets a different sound! I think this way you avoid having to correct people all the time.

I don't attach any value to the meaning of a name at all! I just find it a beautiful name or not!
Besides... My sister-in-law told me that the name of her son (now 15) had a different meaning in a name book back then, than what you can find on the internet today (among other places on Brabbels)...

    Anyway, good luck!

    Oops... Sent too quickly...
The meaning of Noël will naturally not change! ;-)

As Noël, of course, otherwise it would be N-ou-l.

You can basically only give this name if the child is born at Christmas.

The simplest baby name books are often just made-up stuff by the authors. You'd be better off buying a more scientific name book or checking out more serious websites.
