My husband and I really want kids. I haven't taken the pill for over 4 years now. My cycle is 28 days and regular, and otherwise I'm healthy.

We've been trying and haven't succeeded yet. Last month I had cramps in my stomach and sharp pain. After being 7 days late, I finally got my period.

My question is: how long did it take for you to get pregnant with your first child?

Mirsada

Hi dear Mirsada. That reminds me of my 'it was the first time and it stuck' and the second time it stuck right away.

Do you mean to say you've been trying to get pregnant for 4 years? That's quite a long time, isn't it? Have you been to the doctor yet?

    Dear Sara,

We just started trying again, as I haven't been on the pill for 4 years now. We've been using condoms during that time. Because I was 7 days late, I thought I was pregnant. We're going to try again this month, hoping to conceive. I'd really like to know what other couples have done that helped, or how quickly it worked out for them. I'm 31 and my husband is 28.

Count on at least a year to get pregnant, although there are of course lucky ones like Sara .

It took 19 months for me. I'm one of those who can't get pregnant spontaneously and needed help.. I was 20 when I started, now 22 and 27 weeks pregnant.

I understand better than anyone how much you want to get pregnant, but if you say you've just started, I wouldn't worry too much and just wait calmly... As I said; on average it takes a year.

    Greetings, Kruimel

Mirsada, maybe you should try an ovulation test! If you haven't taken the pill for 4 years already, it shouldn't take too long, I think. You only have a few days per cycle when you're fertile.
I myself stopped taking the pill last month after almost 10 years! Hopefully soon all the crap will be out of my body and I'll get pregnant. Wishing you lots of success too!

Started last month, had my period (June 3rd) and unfortunately haven't gotten pregnant again yet... I've been trying and using ovulation tests, but they're just driving me crazy.
    Good luck!!!

Maybe you're putting too much pressure on yourself. Try doing nothing for a bit. Maybe that'll help. Wanting it too much can actually work against you. I also hope the first time works out, but keep in mind it could take a year... It's all so exciting!

    Hi Mirsada,

I was in my 4th month of pregnancy, but I'm really convinced that if you're too focused on it, it won't happen as quickly.
I actually got pregnant in a month when I totally didn't expect it, bought a house, etc., so my mind was totally elsewhere. And that's how it often goes... It's easier said than done, but maybe you can find something to distract your thoughts so you think about it less?
    Good luck!!!

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies. We're trying again now, and I'm just trying not to overthink it and keep things fun. I'm in my fertile window, so we're just enjoying ourselves and trying not to see it as "making a baby," which can be tough for me sometimes. It's all quite nerve-wracking, and we're hoping everything goes well.

I hope it works out for you, Mirsada! I’m supposed to get my period officially next week, but of course I’m hoping it doesn’t happen. Though it does seem pretty strong with the first attempt! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you! Greetings

For me, it was love at first sight! And now I'm almost 27 weeks pregnant x

Mirsada, I really had to strategically time it and make the most of my fertile days; otherwise, it wouldn’t work. It took a while until I had intercourse, starting from day 9, every other day until day 18, and yesss, finally pregnant.
You’re only fertile for a short time in your cycle, just two days. But since sperm can survive for a few days,
it’s best to have intercourse every other day so the sperm is ready and waiting for ovulation.
It might not feel very romantic or fun since it doesn’t feel spontaneous anymore.
It felt that way for us too, but still, I achieved my goal.
With my first and third (which I’m currently pregnant with), I had to do it like this, targeted, not spontaneously, every other day. It did cause some tension with my husband, who felt it was becoming too much like work, but he wanted to do it this way for me so badly because I explained to him that we had the best chance if we kept it up like this. And yes, it worked the same way as with the first. Only my second came quickly after just one month.
By the way, I’ve never taken the pill, but it really had to be every other day, otherwise it wouldn’t work.
It’s quite strange, no baby came spontaneously to us. I always had to time it precisely, every other day. Except for the second one, which was pure luck.
I hope it happens quickly for you too.
    Greetings, Madelene

I want to say here too that even if you'd rather keep it spontaneous and fun, sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. Sometimes getting pregnant is just really hard work, and you don't just stumble into it. A pregnancy usually doesn't just blow in on the wind, and for most people, it requires a lot of effort.

My husband and I are both perfectly healthy. And yet, it took a long time—almost three years—with our first, with nothing wrong with either of us. It only happened when he really started working with me, having intercourse every other day. Then suddenly, it was immediately successful. It was the same with my third pregnancy; we only got pregnant in the same cycle once we started being more focused and intentional. Whereas with the spontaneous approach—just doing it whenever we felt like it—nothing happened, and the pregnancy didn't happen.

So sometimes that doesn't work, and you do need to work together really hard to get closer to your wish.

Omg Madelene, if you're gonna lie, do it right. Weren't you pregnant with the first while your husband was still married?
That took 3 years to pull off...
  14. madelene #15

You need to listen carefully, anonymous!
We both know who you are, but fine, if you don't have the guts to show up under your own name here, that's fine too.
    He was indeed married.
But we had been good friends for about 6 years first.
Then when we got pregnant, his wife was in Italy because her mother was there; I won't go into further detail about that.
But she had to stay there for a long time, living with her brother.
Then he stayed here because of his work.
And because he wanted to be with me.
During that time, I tried to get pregnant by him; it took three years.
Then I finally got pregnant, right at the moment when his wife came back.
He divorced her, and we continued on.
In the end, I think it had to be this way because now we have a beautiful little family together.
Furthermore, I don't want to talk any more about my private life here, and I find it very rude of you to bring up my private life in someone else's topic.
  15. madelene #16

I see I typed a bit too quickly. But it says she went to Italy because her mother was sick.
  16. madelene #17

And I read your little comment that it took so long, so here's my last reply to you.
I got pregnant from him, still her husband.
During the period when his wife was in Italy for her sick mother who became seriously ill.
And she wanted to support and care for her.
    In her illness.
So then he stayed here and worked and lived with me. I tried to get pregnant by him, which wasn't easy and it all took three years in total.
When she came back with their 3-year-old son, I was just pregnant.
This really doesn't concern you at all!
But because it came across so rudely, your comment on my private life,
I'm giving a clear explanation now.
    And that's enough about this!
