Why don't I enjoy it as much?

Hi everyone,

Maybe not the most cheerful topic, but I really need to get this off my chest.
I'm 34 and consciously pregnant with my first baby. A nice friend and we got pregnant right away after one month. Before my pregnancy, I had a rough life with a lot of drinking and smoking. I stopped everything immediately when we found out we were pregnant. I also feel that I have to, because I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror if something were wrong with the baby.
It takes me so much effort not to drink and not to smoke. I'm thinking about it all day long. I'm arguing and not being nice, and I expect my partner to not smoke or drink when I'm around; I feel he should at least do that for me. He doesn't drink at home, but like yesterday, we were at his friends' place and then he joins in for a drink to be social.
I don't know if it's just the 'quitting' or if the hormones are playing a role too (I'm now 7 weeks), but I'm not super happy. I feel insecure, have tender breasts, binge eating, but no nausea like that. I'm very afraid of a miscarriage and look forward to the ultrasound immensely. Hopefully, that makes it feel a bit more realistic. Right now, it all seems so unreal.
Does anyone recognize themselves in my story? I'd find it nice to chat with someone who understands me a bit... My partner and I are just arguing...

Love,
Rinske

    Hi Rinske,

I had that too during my first pregnancy. After a few weeks, I just didn't feel like myself anymore, and it really took a long time to get back to normal. Luckily, my partner was incredibly patient with me.

Looking back, it was definitely the hormones that got me a bit off balance. Now I'm feeling much better!

    Love, Bebe

    hey rinske
it's totally normal that you take it out on your partner. he's the only one who's always around, and also the easiest target. i think it's super impressive that you quit smoking and drinking right away. i don't drink, but during my first pregnancy i did smoke all the time it ended badly, not because of the smoking though, but because of a detached placenta my labor started at 24 weeks. half a year later i quit smoking out of the blue. and it didn't really feel like a struggle, especially since i didn't have to.
now i had gestational diabetes during my second pregnancy, so i couldn't eat certain things anymore. my husband would sit next to me on the couch, eating all the stuff i really love. i threw things at his head so many times, telling him to show some respect. but it didn't help, he just kept doing it pfff. i got so mad at him, but then i'd think, i'm not gonna keep stressing over this nagging, and of course he'd back down. i'm sure he thought, finally, shut up. haha. but we're both carrying the baby, and we need to make sure he doesn't get exposed to harmful substances. they get it directly through us anyway, more so than through others. but yeah, it's not fun when you quit and you still crave a cigarette or a drink, but all you can do is sit there watching
    greetings, liena
