Hi everyone!
I was wondering what you actually use from your baby registry starting from birth, and what you use it for?
I'm asking this to save as much money as possible on unnecessary little things.
Thanks in advance,
Love, Monique

    @monicque,

    You can also get a lot at Zeeman and Wibra. I did that myself too...

    That's definitely true... there are so many things on there that you NEVER use, even old-fashioned stuff that's completely out of use now, like umbilical cord ties... Bottle warmers aren't used at all either, because you can just grab warm water from the tap.
    Cradle covers aren't used anymore either; instead, they now use hydrophilic diapers that they roll up in a certain way to make it safer.

    And if you really want to save money, ask family/friends with (young) kids too. They often have a lot of reusable stuff lying around. Sometimes you can even borrow it between two kids (as long as you give it back on time) The same goes for baby clothes.
    As for the maternity package, first check if you don't get that from your insurance.
    For 'samen op weg' in the oei-ik-groei list above: don't forget the wrap. A stretchy long wrap (tricot, ByKay for example) can be bought for around 15 to 20 euros on Marktplaats. It's lovely and cozy to carry your baby, and it's quite possible that it suits you so well that a (expensive) stroller won't even be necessary.

    I’ve used flannel changing mats under the mattress sheets before, though usually 6 are recommended—I only needed three.
    I also see that for bottle feeding, multiple bottles are often recommended. I used Avent bottles until my baby was 6 months old, after which one bottle was enough. From my work experience, I’ve heard Difa is good for colic, etc., but I personally used Avent because it came in the free starter box and I really liked it.
    Also, I bought a lot of things secondhand from the thrift store and Marktplaats. Almost all covers can be washed, so they stay fresh and hygienic.

    I can only tell you a few things we don't use. We don't use safety pins, hydrophilic washcloths or spit cloths pretty much at all. We use 1 washcloth for bathing, and for spit cloths we use the hydrophilic ones or the terry cloth ones. We don't use the bath seat either. And all those lovely Zwitsal oils and lotions we weren't allowed to use for now. We did use the shampoo and butt wipes though, but all the smearing stuff we had to wait a few months for. Besides that, I have whole jars of Sudocrem and zinc ointment, which I haven't used yet either, but according to my friend, that'll come in handy later.

    I don't have much experience with it myself, but you can easily keep track of everything you still need at www.thingsweneed.be. Just a tip!
