Nova as a boy's name

Hi there,

I think Nova is a really beautiful name. Personally, I don't see it as a typical girl's name, but more like a boy's name. That said, Nova is generally known as a girl's name (though apparently there are a few boys in the Netherlands with the name Nova, according to the internet).

What do you all think?
Can Nova be used for a boy?

Of course, Nova can be a boy's name too. I think almost every name can work for both genders. It's just a matter of getting used to it. It's the same with Sanne, usually for a girl, but it can also just be for a boy. Definitely go for it!

Nova... Yes, I do! I agree with the previous comment (anon).

Fun, we're also thinking of Nova as a boy's name... Did you end up using it as a boy's name?

Even though the name is also given to boys, I still think it's really a typical girl's name. Personally, I'd never give it to a boy, no matter how beautiful it is. I think there are some boyish names that look similar, right?

    For example:

    Novak
    Novan
    Novel
    Novar

Nova, I also think is such a beautiful name.
Although I immediately think of a girl. Especially because I hear the name more and more for girls in my area. There are already several girls at the primary school with the name Nova.

Yes, it's a really nice name... But personally, I find the name quite girly.

I'd go for Novan or Novar for a boy. Much nicer and more boyish.

I’d also go for a variant.
Personally, I find the 'a' at the end very feminine. Besides, I’d never give Sanne to a boy either.

    I don't think it's a nice name.
Not for a young boy or girl either.
    I also don't really think it's a name myself.
But anyway, opinions are divided on this.
Do what feels right in your heart; it's your baby.

    Girl's name sorry

I don't really think it's a first name either, and definitely not for a boy.

One of the alternatives mentioned above does sound like a boy's name.

I'm pregnant and the name Nova has been on my list for a long time. Now I'm starting to doubt whether Nova is boyish enough? Variants like Nolan, Novan, Novak I find less beautiful and powerful. I think it might take some adjustment for some people, but once you've heard the name twice and linked it to the baby, you won't even think about it anymore? I've also never heard the name for a girl here in East Flanders, Belgium, so the association with a girl might not come as quickly. And yet I keep doubiting... my husband thinks it's a beautiful name but would have preferred it for a girl.

    What do you all think?

I wouldn't do it, it might cause too much confusion for the little one when he's older. People might expect a girl when they see the name... I think.

I don't think it's a beautiful name. Not for a boy and not for a girl, honestly. Sorry about that.

I think it's a beautiful name! Both for boys and girls.

Nova! Such a lovely name! Sounds really cheerful. I think it's more of a unisex name and works well for a boy too.

Such a beautiful name! At first I’d also think of a girl, but it’s not a typical girl’s name, so it works perfectly for a boy too!

    I really think it's a girl's name, but I guess that's because I have a niece who's called that.
