Can the name Isis still be used now with the developments in Iraq?

We were pretty much in agreement from very early on in the pregnancy that our girl would be named Isis. Since then, the terrorist group ISIS has come into the news, and we're not so sure about our choice anymore. We have long lists of names, but our preference still remains with our first choice. If we spell the name differently now, like Izes or Isez, would that work?

We're really curious to hear what you think.

Greetings

Just go with Isis!! With every name, you can think of something negative. Our daughter is named Merlin. Hotels, a medical company, and a bike brand also have that name. Of course, that’s not exactly the same as a terrorist group. But the connection between your beautiful girl and a terrorist group will (hopefully) not be made so quickly. I think Isis is a really beautiful name. Another spelling will only make it more difficult for you and later for her.

    Good luck with the pregnancy!

Great name! Just go for it!

I'd recommend against it. It's getting a lot of media attention right now and has only taken on a negative meaning. It might fade later on, but given how things are now, I'd suggest coming up with a different name.

    I wouldn't do it either :s
If this were something from the past, I'd say don't let it bother you!
But this is so recent and current, and it's not even over yet..

No, I wouldn't choose it now... Too many negative associations... Even if it's spelled differently... I'd rather go for something like Inez or Isa...

    I wouldn't do it either..
Isa (as mentioned anonymously) I think is super nice!

I don't like the name Isis anyway.
By the way, it's a boy's name meaning Jesus or something like that. But with all the suffering and innocent children being killed, I wouldn't want to give that name myself.

Do well! Meanwhile, it's more IS than Isis, and it's a beautiful name. You can also make it Ize/Ise if you're unsure, or Isa or Iris.

I think this baby has already been born, given the date July 27 when this question was asked..
