Lighter pill

Hi!
Just a quick question.
It doesn't have much to do with pregnancy, but it is important for it.
I switched from ethinylestradiol/levonorgestrel 0.3/0.15 to ethinylestradiol/levonorgestrel 0.2/0.1.
I finished my old pack, had my break week, and then started my new pack with lighter pills on the 'normal' start day.
However, I read online that you should have started the new pack of lighter pills immediately after the last pill of the old pack.
My GP didn't mention this to me, but does anyone here have experience with this?
What is the effect then, and are you more unprotected against pregnancy if you first took a stronger pill? (since I have the bad habit of forgetting one sometimes..)
My boyfriend and I have regular sex without condoms, never had any problems, but now I'm wondering if I'm really safe.
Another reason we're worried is that after one of those times, I had a very strong feeling that it 'hit' right away.
That feeling went away almost immediately, but my boyfriend felt it too (on another occasion, namely the day before).
Now we can only doubt, that certain feeling has just made me insecure. We haven't had that feeling anymore since, but in the moment itself, right after intercourse, it is quite frightening.
A baby would be very welcome of course, but since we're both in the middle of our studies, it wouldn't really work out well.
But more info about switching, when to start taking them, etc. is welcome!

Love, Jillian.

Sorry that no one has responded yet.
Just wanted to keep you all updated.
I'm experiencing quite a few symptoms (what stands out the most is a lot of discharge, getting excited (easily) and very emotional.
    Also experiencing stomach pain. (intestines).
I hope someone can tell me something about this, we can only test in a week and it's quite nerve-wracking.

If you had to swallow your pride and didn’t, you’re unprotected, but very few women get pregnant the first time. Maybe reach out to your GP and ask how things are?

    Hi Jillian

I'm, just like everyone else here, not a GP so I really have no idea how the pill works!
Have you talked to your GP about it yet? If you haven't, I'd suggest you do so soon..

I can totally believe it's nerve-wracking.. just keep in mind that constantly thinking about it and being anxious can also cause a lot of symptoms. Plus, you've switched to a different strength of the pill, which might also bring on some symptoms.

There are tests (Early Predictor and Clear Blue) that you can use 4 days before your expected period.. you could buy one, that might give you some peace of mind sooner.

What I always found was that as soon as I got a negative test, the symptoms disappeared like snow in the sun.. so basically, stressing over nothing!

I'm curious! Good luck with this last week of waiting.

    Thanks for your replies!
No, I haven't spoken to my GP anymore.. Honestly, I really don't like going to the doctor and don't do it that often.
When I got my lighter pills, however, she didn't say I should keep taking them after my old pack. She was still training so I wonder if she forgot or if it's just not necessary..
But since I hear everywhere that I should, and the symptoms are really noticeable to me (I've never had dizziness and nausea all day long), I think it might be right.
Aren't those tests that are 4 days before the expected period really expensive? We're quite tight on cash, so I'd rather wait 4 extra days and spend 6 times less..
    Can't wait to see!

A phone call to ask should be enough, I think, but you'll have to decide for yourself
From €10 you can get those early tests, but Action also has early tests, 2 for €2, and even cheaper options—you can't get them any cheaper!

Good luck, and let me know how it went?

Honestly, I don’t really trust Action that much, but if you guys say they work, I’ll buy them.
And I’ll definitely keep you posted!
    Thanks for the info!

I talked it over with my boyfriend, and we think it's better to wait until my period is due, despite the tension.
If I get my period, that's enough, right?
Or does the pill work in such a way that you still get your period.. (Sorry, no experience with that).
But we're waiting until my period is due to test anyway. Then you also don't have the risk that it's negative while you're secretly pregnant..
We're both secretly hoping really hard that I'm pregnant, despite our studies.
    It's really exciting, hihi

Well, I'm not one to quickly call the doctor, but if you're worried about it and you go ask here where no one actually knows, and they're not doctors, then I'll just have to call anyway. Honestly, I find it pretty weird that you don't do that. Otherwise, all this stress will be for nothing.

    Yes, you're right.
I'll give them a call later, I've got the day off anyway.

She said you really should swallow right away after the last strip of the stronger pills, otherwise you'll have to use protection for a week.
She also said the chance of pregnancy is small, but it's better to check just in case, you never know.
Too bad I wasn't informed about this right away..
But everyone makes mistakes or forgets something sometimes.
So we'll just have to wait and see.

Took a test today and yes.. totally pregnant! So happy!

Oh, look at that! Your gut feeling was right after all..
    Congratulations!
Even though it's unplanned, I'm happy to hear that you're happy and that it's definitely not any less welcome
And it'll all work out fine, despite your studies and all. Wishing you lots of luck!!
