It can take a long time to get pregnant with your second one.

Hi,

weird question maybe, but I’m really wondering about this. I already have a beautiful daughter who’s turning 2 next month. I stopped the pill last September because we didn’t want a big age gap. But now I just can’t get pregnant, and with my first one it was on the first try! I’m starting to wonder if this is normal or if we should get some tests done.

Hope someone can help!

Cheers

    Hi

Unfortunately, a quick first pregnancy doesn't guarantee a quick second one either.

Since you got pregnant so quickly with baby #1, I don't think you'll qualify for any tests yet. It normally takes about +/- a year to get pregnant... you were lucky with the first one that it happened so fast.

You could always visit your GP, but as long as your cycle is fairly regular (?), the doctor will probably just send you home and ask you to come back in September after trying for a year.
Maybe not though, it's worth trying of course, but unfortunately that's often how it goes.

    Good luck!

    hey,

    thanks for the reply.
but unfortunately my cycle isn't regular.
I can never put a date on when they come, it's always a waiting game whether they break through or not. last month, my period was over and after 2 days I already had bleeding again for 2 days, I don't understand any of it

    greetings

    Hi hi,

Well, you don't really get to choose the age gap between kids...
    Unfortunately, you can't control that!!

But I do understand you're wondering how it is that you got pregnant in the first round with the first one, and now it's taking so long!!

Our first child was also conceived in the first round.

And we were thinking around the time the eldest was two and a half that we wanted to try for a second! Since the first one got pregnant right away, we thought the second would come quickly too!!

Nope... it wasn't until the eldest was 5 years old that I got pregnant!!

And just one month before that, I even had a laparoscopy, where they managed to flush out one fallopian tube, but the other one wouldn't open no matter how many times they tried!! So ultimately, I got pregnant within a month after cleaning it up, with just one functioning ovary!

So sometimes a second child can indeed take longer to arrive!!

But well, I was 29 when I got pregnant with the first, and 34 with the second!
Now we're trying for a third, and I'm 37 now, so we'll see if it works out!!

Hope this helps you a bit!!

    hey,

thanks for the reply, we're just going to wait and see for now, I'll get pregnant "someday", but if it happens closer together, it's always nicer for them.
we'll see. maybe I'm thinking about it too much and that's why it's not working out.

    cheers

    Hi, hi

Same here... with the first one it was a hit straight away, and now since September I've been busy with the second... My due date is coming up this weekend... But I'm trying not to focus too much on it.
I did go to the doctor recently, but there's no reason for concern yet.. They checked my cervix and ovaries, and they seem fine.. So we're just waiting! Our first child is now four years old, and we wanted to wait until after her fourth year to start trying for a second..

I understand your frustration when it's your wish and it just won't happen.
With me it was exactly the other way around; I didn't get pregnant quickly with the first one.
But with the second one, I did get pregnant within 2 months.
Maybe your cycle has changed now, so your ovulation happens at an earlier or later time than before.

    Hi ladies,

Our son turned 1 last week, it was such a beautiful, special day.
How did that year fly by so fast!

Now my partner and I are trying for a second one. With us, it took 3 tries to succeed. I'm curious to see how it goes this time!

Hey there! Got a beautiful test yesterday! Pregnant!
  9. Anonymous Guest #10

    BepM CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
    ENJOY IT!!

This is round 3 but don't think it's the one.
We already have 2 kids so that's already very nice.

We know that my fallopian tube is blocked and can't be fixed anymore.

So the chance of pregnancy remains smaller.

And well, I'm 37 and my partner is 40.

So let's see if a third child comes or not!

Hope it does but if it doesn't come I can also make peace with that.

I wish you a very beautiful and good pregnancy and let me know from time to time how you and the little one are doing! That would be nice!!

    Greetings Passionflower

    Hi Paasiebloem,

    Thanks for your nice reply!

Did you have a blocked fallopian tube before?

    Congratulations, bepm!
    Wishing you a lovely pregnancy.
How old is your first child?
We're also trying for a second child; our son is 17 months old.

    Hi,

Our daughter just turned 4. I wasn’t too keen on having her in diapers for two years, so...
  13. irma Guest #14

Congratulations and enjoy it! Even if it's still so new.

Congratulations! Hopefully, it works out here too, already 3 days overdue.
  15. BepM #16

    And already tested?
  16. elkekeymolen started this #17

Nope, not tested yet. Is it too early to test? I have a very irregular cycle. Last time I was 4 days late and tested early, but it was negative. If nothing happens tomorrow, I'll test. But I don't have any symptoms either.

So, I'll wait a bit longer.

    Exciting every keymolen!

I thought I wasn't pregnant, but since today I've had brown discharge, exactly old blood, so we're only 6 days late! I don't understand anything anymore.

For me, the second one also took longer. With the first, I was 2 months pregnant, and the second one took 10 months to happen. And now I’m even lucky enough to have a daughter after having a son.
Be patient, it’ll come naturally. And don’t think that your GP will do much about it here. But I totally understand your impatience every month again with the tension of whether or not it’s happening.
