Cycle after curettage

Elena
Hi ladies,

I had a D&C 6 weeks ago, and now I was just waiting for my first period before we could start trying again.

Well, on Monday I was overjoyed because I had some brownish discharge, so I thought my period had started. But up until today (it's been 4 days now), it's still just brownish/pinkish discharge. Normally with my period it becomes bright red and isn't so 'watery' like it is now... However, I do have the stomach cramps and back pain you normally get with your period...

So I wanted to ask what your experiences are with your first period after a D&C? Is it usually this light or is it just as heavy?

Best regards!

    Hi Elena,

It’s variable. You’ll get your period again after 4-6 weeks. It’s kind of a reset for your body, so it’s normal if your periods are a bit ‘weird’ for the next few months, maybe not regular yet.

After my first curettage, I lost some blood after four days. They hadn’t told me that, so I called the doctor’s office and spent the whole afternoon there. The doctor said it was my period :-) After that, it came after 19 days, then 23. Neither was a normal period. Then things became regular again and the bleeding was normal too.
After my second one, I got my period after 14 days, also brown and ‘weird’, and then it went back to normal.
Moral of the story: sounds very normal. You do need to call the doctor if you get a fever or cramps that persist. Fingers crossed for you.

    Love, Wens

    Hi,
Had a curettage on October 25th and lost some blood for 2 weeks after the procedure.
After 6-7 weeks of dark brown blood loss, is this normal? Is this my period?

Hi! I had a D&C exactly three weeks ago. Last week, my gynecologist contacted me to see how I was doing. I told him that the bleeding stopped within a week, but I’ve had real back pain for the last three days. He said that my period is probably coming, and sure enough, this morning on the toilet I saw red/brown blood and got period cramps. So, here’s my period again after just three weeks! With my previous miscarriage, it also came within a month, luckily! But it can take a while; my cousin didn’t get her period again until 12 weeks later.

    Stay strong!!

Hi, I had a miscarriage 6 weeks ago and now I’m having cramps, red bleeding, brown discharge, and then nothing for half a day. Then it starts all over again. Is this normal?

    Hi,
On September 16th, I had a D&C after a miscarriage. Now, on October 12th, I got my period. So, only 3.5 weeks later! I did have some brown discharge every now and then over the past 3-4 days, but I wasn't expecting this. I spoke to my gynecologist yesterday about whether the discharge and mild cramps were normal. According to her, this can indeed be the case after a D&C. After the period, everything will return to 'normal'.
Whatever the reason you're reading this, we're all insecure and looking for recognition and 'what is normal'. We're all normal, and our bodies react differently. So, be kind to yourself and your body. Often, that's all you can do.
    Strength to all,
    Love.

I didn't have a curettage, but I had a miscarriage in early June where some tissue remained. This was later resolved with medication.
After that, I had an extremely irregular cycle for 3 months. First 40 days, then twice 21 days, and then my vaccination in between, which turned out not to be good for my cycle afterward.
