Pregnancy wish & frustrations

Stay Calm
Hi everyone,

I’ve been tracking my basal body temperature for the first time last month because my body keeps playing tricks on me every month.
I always get certain pregnancy symptoms, but I test negative every month and my period also comes on irregular days.
I stopped the pill in August 2013. We’re trying for our first baby.
The first 4 months I had a regular cycle of 28 days. In recent months this hasn’t been the case. I’ve had cycles of 35-39 days.
I find it really hard to estimate when I should best have sex and when I can expect my period.
For example, when should I test if I’m late every month and have pregnancy symptoms?

My husband and I aren’t really making a big deal out of it, but it’s hard to just switch it off.
I’ve even been dreaming about being pregnant for a few weeks. I dream that I’m pregnant or that I’m already a mother. Could this be a sign or does it have to do with the fact that we’re trying?

Love, Stay Calm
(a woman with a desire for children in her 7th round).

    Hi hi Stay Calm,

Apart from your changed cycle, I totally relate to your story!!
I would indeed also start using ovulation tests. That gave me a lot of peace of mind. I was sure we had a chance every month, and that lifted my spirits so much.
I also had a couple of times where I dared to swear I was pregnant. I had two miscarriages before this pregnancy, so we ended up trying for a year and a half.

One more question for yourself: when did you stop the pill? Your changed cycle might be related to that. Some women don't have issues with coming off the pill, others for a year. Maybe there's an explanation for that, since the pill also pushes you into a 28-day cycle.

Something funny: I sometimes also had the feeling (even during the month): this month it's going to work. Or: this month nothing will happen. I hoped to get my period quickly so we could move on to the next one. This was the case with my second AND third pregnancies. I didn't test until 3 days late because my boyfriend convinced me. I was sure I was NOT pregnant. Well, obviously :-D And then I also had months where I really had to vomit and had sore breasts, while I was just getting my period. So to say: my body was also mercilessly fooling me. In the end, you don't know and you have to wait and see. I got really annoyed with people who said: you just shouldn't think about it. Rrrrr like that's so easy. The only thing that helped me was doing fun things and finding distractions. Then letting go happened naturally.

Good luck in the coming time!
    Greetings, Wens

    Thanks for your messages.
I’ve decided to share my frustration with my best friend, who recently became a mom too. This is because she sometimes makes jokes with my husband and me about having kids. My husband and I are absolutely crazy about her little one.
My friend also understands my frustrations and pointed out that I shouldn’t dwell on it too much. That’s not easy, but I do understand why everyone says that.

I stopped the pill in August 2013. For the first 4 months, I had a regular cycle of 28 days, and then I switched to cycles of 37-39 days.
I’m now in round 7 and on day 31 of the cycle.
I’ve decided to only test when I’m at 42 days, so when I’m 2 days late.
Lately, I’ve been feeling off again. Sensitive nipples, bloated feeling, gained 0.5 kg even though I’m not eating more than usual, temperature spikes, fatigue, and today a mild case of nausea.
This could of course be the flu, but I hope it’s not.
I notice that distraction definitely helps. I’ve been working a lot in the past few weeks, so you don’t think about it. I’m off work today, and I just notice that I’m preoccupied with it.

Hi! I totally relate to this. I stopped the pill in October 2013. The first three times I got my period after that were all "regular," with cycles of 25-29 days. The next time it took 71 days (April 3rd). And now, I'm still waiting. I read everywhere that your period can be very irregular in the first half-year, and being impatient as I am, I've already been to the doctor, who of course also told me it's a matter of waiting. I was really focused on it at first, and now I'm trying to let it go a bit. But that's easier said than done. I'm also wondering if I should take a test, because I've been really stressed the past few weeks, and I think that might be delaying my period. Right now, I'm also home with quite a bad cold, which could also be a reason for the delay.

In short, I'm also really frustrated because my body isn't functioning the way I'd like it to right now!

(By the way, it's logical, of course—I took the pill continuously for over 10 years before, so I understand that my body needs to adjust. It's just that waiting is so frustrating!)

I'm glad there are more women who can relate to my story. It's still a wait-and-see situation. Next Monday is the day I'm supposed to start my period. I really hope it doesn't come this time.
My temperature is definitely going up anyway. Normally my temp is around 36.2-36.4 and over the past 2 days it has slowly risen to 36.7. I've never had it this high before

I totally get it. We've been trying for a year now, and every month is nerve-wracking again. All I can think about is that maybe this month we'll really be pregnant! Unfortunately, it's another disappointment every month. My friend sometimes says, 'why don't you stop worrying about it so much?' This is truly an impossible task. Especially when there are people around me who are pregnant. That always makes it even harder.

It's impossible to say: 'I'm not going to think about it anymore'. That's really BS and it just doesn't work out that way. I planned as many fun things as possible, which helped me feel better in my own skin. Because of this, our desire for a child was no longer the most important thing.

What I also find so serious is when people say: You're too focused on it, that's why it's not working out. As if you're even to blame for it yourself!! It shouldn't get any worse than that.

Anyway, know that I'm living with you and trying to draw hope from my story, namely that I'm now 19 weeks pregnant. I hope you'll get there soon too.

Unfortunately, I started my period last Monday after all.
I’m indeed spending too much time on this now. It’s so hard not to think about it. In my opinion, I relax enough. I do enough to distract myself. Whatever I do, thoughts about my desire for a child are always present.
It seems like everyone around me suddenly gets pregnant. And that frustrates me the most. I wish it for everyone, but I want to get there myself too.

So unfair, one person gets pregnant while using the pill, and I’m not after 8 or 9 months I also notice that I’m becoming increasingly worried about whether something is wrong that’s preventing me from getting pregnant. Could it be me or my husband who might be infertile.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

    Love

    I totally relate to this.
    Round 10 just failed...
From round 3, the GP suspected endometriosis, but since the scan and blood tests didn't provide enough evidence in that direction, they put the idea on hold for now. The next test is a laparoscopy, which they only want to perform if you haven't had any luck after a year... These are exhausting months!
