no veggies, no problem

Hi everyone,

Our little boy, almost 6 months old, has been eating fruit pouches since he was 4 months. We notice he seems hungrier, but if we give him a vegetable jar, he spits everything out after two bites. The same goes for fresh fruit. He still gets 4 bottles of 210ml each and sleeps from 7:30 PM to 7:00/7:30 AM, so that's fine, but during the day he keeps asking for his bottles earlier and seems less satisfied.

Does anyone have any tips?

    Hi Anita,

My little boy did that too, but I kept offering him little bites every day and it got better and better. I started with carrots, which are a bit sweeter, like broccoli. He'd make all sorts of funny faces and spit it all out, hehe..

Wishing you lots of success and hopefully you'll get lots of tips!

Definitely keep offering and maybe try transitioning away from jars so he gets used to different flavors. We have the Avent Babycook and it's really ideal for making homemade baby food. You just throw in peeled and chopped fruit or veggies, and the Babycook steams and blends it. And yes, start with sweet veggies like carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, and maybe add some green beans with an apple blended in. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. We now give him a few bites each evening to taste so he doesn't spit everything out. And he gets a sandwich at midday which he finds delicious. He seems to like pureed food less, so we've bought jars for 8-month-olds.

Some kids also find it much nicer to eat by themselves, like a piece of steamed broccoli in their hand or a piece of steamed carrot. Who knows

Pumpkin is also sweet and tasty.
Or maybe start with potato mixed in with the fruit first. Potato and apple or potato and pear.
You can also give veggies with sweet potato...

Of course, this is the downside of starting with fruit puree first.
We started with veggies first. Fruit only comes a few weeks later. She eats everything I give her. Carrot, zucchini, broccoli, pumpkin, endive... all with potato added.

A combo that was popular here was carrot with orange. And indeed, sweet potato too. So keep trying. I never managed to get her to eat spinach when she was little, but now it's okay. She really loves lentils and pumpkin too, but I'll have to check when that's appropriate. My daughter is a toddler now... So I don't remember that schedule so well. Fruit works well too, but she's very picky. She doesn't really like strawberries, nor cherries. Ella's Kitchen makes baby food with lots of veggies for very young kids, which is nice because it's hard to make puree yourself (I don't really feel like it). Who knows, maybe that'll work? Fingers crossed!
