Girl's name BAIA, do you think this is weird?

I thought the name Bahia was nice, but with this spelling, people will probably say "Ba-Hia," while it's actually pronounced Baia. Bahia is an Arabic girl's name. Baia is Jewish. What do you think of this name?

    Hey Julie,

it's really an original name, quite beautiful. If you're worried about how people will pronounce it when you add the "H", it's probably best to go with the Jewish version.

Thanks for your advice. It does have a nice ring to it... Sounds soft to me, and the meaning is "beautiful, elegant"

    That's gladly done, of course!
Yes, the meaning is indeed very beautiful.

And how did you come up with that name?
Are you only looking for Southern or Eastern names?

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and I just can't seem to find a name. I'm not specifically looking for Southern or Eastern names. I just really want a special name that you don't hear often. My boyfriend is half-Maroccan so I looked through Arabic girls' names again yesterday just for fun. Then I came across Bahia, and by typing Baia into Google I realized that spelling also exists, in Jewish... Baya with a y works too.

I think Baia is really beautiful! I've never heard of it before, but it doesn't sound too pretentious or anything..GO FOR IT

    Hey Julie,

I'm also half Moroccan, and the most beautiful Arabic girl names I find are:

Lyana, Lina, Nora, Inaya, Selma, Soraya, Sania
Leyla, Ilana, Yanara, Rihana, for me these are the most beautiful, and if my next one is a girl I'll definitely choose Lyana my husband and I agreed on it...

Good luck with the search, I know this isn't easy

    Lots of love

I find it a bit less appealing myself; it feels a bit too much like Bah-ia to me. But it could also be that you just need to get used to it, of course.

Ok, the decision was made this weekend. It’s going to be Noor!

    That's really NICE!!

Thank you! It’s actually my partner’s choice. At first, I wasn’t totally into it, but after thinking it over, I ended up finding it cheerful, sweet, tough, and stylish all at once. I find it so hard to choose between all those different beautiful girl names that exist... So I’m really glad I can finally move forward with the birth announcements, sugar candies with name tags, and all that stuff.

You don't sound really 100% sure.

Think about it a bit more, how far along are you in your pregnancy?

    Good luck with the search.

    Oh yes, I'm sold

I'm 31 weeks now... Are you pregnant too?
  13. N. Coppola #14

    Hey Julie,

No, I'm not pregnant right now.. but I have a son who's almost 17 months old.

This summer I'll be starting my 2nd pregnancy if all goes well
I'm actually looking forward to it.
Pregnancy is actually the most beautiful experience I've ever had.
    Good luck to you too!

    Hi,
I've been called Bahia for almost 24 years now. Super name! I don't know anyone else who has that name either! Do you pronounce it as ba-Hia? My mom is half Spanish/Moroccan. In Arabic, it means beautiful, gorgeous, and in Spanish, it means a bay. Good luck!

I really do like original names that aren't very common.
I don't think it's a weird name, but honestly, I don't find it beautiful or nice.
    Not really my taste.
It reminds me strongly of the name Bahera from that Disney movie.
If you all think it's a beautiful name, why not?
Just go for it, but personally, I'm not really into it.
    Greetings, Madelene

It reminds me of the Baya Beach Club.

I find it quite funny. But if you don't pronounce the letter H, you shouldn't include it in the name either. So I'd go with Baia as the spelling.

    So beautiful!

Just getting used to it, but after a few cancellations, it's quite nice.
