Mirena IUD irregular cycle?!

Hi ladies. I have a question and maybe someone here recognizes this. I’ve been on the pill since I was 12 due to severe period symptoms. In May 2013, I got an IUD inserted. On Nov 22, I had it removed because we wanted to try for a baby. On Nov 25, I had bleeding for 5 days (if you can even call it that). If I were to assume a 28-day cycle (I don’t know my cycle), I should have been due on Dec 22. But no. A week later on Dec 30... yes, I was bleeding. At least I know my cycle wasn’t completely thrown off. On the afternoon of Dec 31, it stopped. No more blood and it didn’t feel like a period at all. Normally I have heavy bleeding and cramps, but I didn’t have that. We had sex on the 29th, so I thought maybe that was why I was bleeding. Had sex again on Jan 3 and yesterday I bled a bit again. My period has been absent for 2 weeks now and the tests keep coming back negative. It’s driving me crazy. I had promised myself not to dwell on it too much, but unfortunately, I am. Any tips? Should I go to the GP tomorrow or what?

Best,

    Hi there!

Unfortunately, I can't tell you or anyone else here exactly what's going on.
Maybe your cycle just needs to get back on track and you're experiencing some spotting in between. Maybe you're bleeding after sex because your cervix is sensitive after having your IUD removed. Maybe you're already pregnant and it's related to implantation; sometimes it takes a little while for a test to show positive. Maybe...

Going to the doctor could be an option, but I don't think they'll be able to help you. Not yet, at least.
But you can always pop in just to get reassured. It's just, as unpleasant as it is, you'll have to wait it out!!

What you could do is start tracking your temperature. Maybe you weren't planning on doing that right at the beginning, but it does give you more insight into your cycle. (Personally, I'm not such a fan of it, because it doesn't work for me). And then you'll also have something to bring to your GP if it really takes a long time!
    Good luck!

    xx

Thank you so much, crumb. I've decided to treat those 1.5 days as my period and wait another month. If I'm still not getting my period or have a positive test after a month, I'll see the doctor. I've read about basal body temperature (BBT) tracking, but as a maternity care nurse, my hours are so irregular, and since you have to take your temperature at the exact same time every day, I don't think it's for me haha. I'll just wait and see then. I won't be so focused on it

    Love,
