Peter - godparen vs grandparents

Well girl, it's not you, but that father-in-law of yours who's completely off base here.
I think his reaction is very immature and selfish.
Becoming a grandpa is already a huge privilege, that should be enough!

Personally, I'd be done with my in-laws if I went through the same thing as you.. Let them come to you to apologize, you did nothing wrong!

Enjoy your pregnancy further, don't let this affect your happiness!

    Hi little one,

Thanks for your reply. I also feel sad for our baby. So much drama and they're not even born yet. I'm taking a break for now and trying to avoid them a bit. I don't want to let things escalate for my husband because they're still his parents. It's a shame this is casting a shadow on the pregnancy, but I'm trying to enjoy it as much as possible because it's only good for our baby.

Oh, that's so sad... We're also struggling with the question of who should be godparents. Maybe it would help your grandparents if they understood our criteria.

For us, the most important role of godparents is that there are backup parents ready in case something happens to us. In that sense, it's quite illogical to choose a generation older than ourselves; a generation of the same age makes much more sense.

Additionally, godparents could be backup parents who could also take care of the Catholic part of the upbringing, so in that sense, being religious is a plus.

I do NOT think that godparent roles should be assigned just to keep the family happy. Godparents are there for the child, not the other way around.

Hopefully, this can help foster a bit more understanding when discussing this topic... strength!

    Hi Martijn,

Thanks for the criteria! I'll definitely take this into account to clarify our stance!
Have you guys already decided who the godparent will be?
