Ladies, what do you think of the name Melody?

Hi ladies, I'm Anja, 27 years old and pregnant with my third child. It's going to be a girl. I was thinking about the name Melody, pronounced like "melodie." But I'm worried that this name sounds too much like Melanie, and my niece is named Melanie, so I don't like that they sound too similar. What do you think? Does this name sound a lot like Melanie? Another thing I'm worried about is that it might get shortened to Mel later on, and they'd call her Mel. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Best, Anja

The name does indeed sound very similar to Melanie, and personally, I don't think Melody is a great name. It's lovely when your daughter is about five, but what about when you're 30? On the other hand, just choose what makes you happy

I forgot to mention that Melody is pronounced in the English way. Thanks anyway, Iza, for your honest opinion. I also don't think this name is that great now, and I've got confirmation that it indeed sounds like the name Melanie. I wouldn't have minded that much if my niece wasn't named so.
