Relatable?

I'm curious about your experiences with an active little one.

Our boy is now a year and a half old and is a real busy bee. Climbing, being active—nothing is too wild for him.

Our first son, who is 6 now, has been like this from the start and is still very active... well, dealing with that pfff. Always moving and talking!! Our second one is now 7 weeks old, so I can't really judge yet haha

oh yes, totally relatable. my oldest daughter, 4, is so hyper, so energetic. she was already like that at 1 year old. she also runs off, so we always have to watch out for that. she's so fast and can't sit still on the couch. she jumps, runs, has such a hard time just sitting calmly. she likes playing with sticks and doing wild things. she often jumps off the couch, and if I'm not paying attention for a second, she climbs her wardrobe and jumps from there onto her bed. oh oh so exhausting. people told me I was crazy when I got pregnant. when she was just 1, it was awful, so exhausting. she was so hyper, and I was nauseous from my pregnancy. my dad always calls her a wild thing.

It's so lovely to read your replies.

Phew, running away is intense, and they really don't see any danger. Gosh, jumping off the cabinet.

I just have to turn around and he's on the table or making a little bridge between the table and the couch. Phew, if he slips with his hands, he lands face-first on the edge of the table. So scary.
Right before he turned 1, he almost climbed onto the windowsill. Yes, climbing is his favorite. But ramming into the cabinet is fun too.

I sometimes really have to force him to calm down. He needs it, but he's too hyperactive to do it himself.

Ps, we also want to wait a bit before having a second one because he's so busy. Was that really hectic for you, or did it go pretty well, Felicia? Also, considering the reactions you got.

Hi anonymous, thanks for your message. I actually got pregnant unintentionally back then, but I wasn’t on the pill. I foolishly thought that if I was careful, I wouldn’t get pregnant. Anyway, I’m on the pill now—I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll be honest, it was really tough.

and that's exactly what it's like now. you have to imagine that when i was pregnant at the beginning, i got so nauseous in the early morning. you really just want to turn over in bed and lie there a bit longer until the nausea passes, then get up slowly. but you can't do that—you don't get the chance. my one-year-old daughter was already demanding attention. she was, of course, awake. oh, how awful. i had to make breakfast for her. so there i was in the kitchen, feeling super nauseous.

and while I was feeling nauseous and sick, making her bread ready, my little girl was tearing up toilet paper in the toilet and making little pieces out of it. She had almost brought it all over the room. Oh no, I thought when I saw that. I gave her her bread where I still had to pick off pieces and give them to her piece by piece, otherwise she would mess it up or throw it away. It was very exhausting, let me tell you, when you feel unwell. When that bread was finally finished, she jumped off the couch and ran to the kitchen. In the meantime, I had to pick up all those torn pieces of paper with great effort. I got dizzy from bending down too. Hehe, I was done. I collapsed on the couch, but unfortunately, I had to get up quickly again because she had taken all the pots out of the kitchen cupboards. Oh no, I had to continue from there again, and I was so terribly sick.

My morning felt like a crucifixion when I finally got the pots back in the cupboard and walked into the bedroom, I saw the plant. It had fallen, all the soil was on the floor, and my little girl was sitting next to it on the ground. She was laughing and pointing at the plant; she couldn't really talk yet, almost not at all. I wanted to cry. I picked her up, put her on the sofa, and started crying. I felt so sick and miserable, and then on top of that, the plant, first the pots, then the papers, and now the plant. I wanted to get the dustpan and broom to sweep up the soil, but where was Yara? I had put her on the sofa, she was sitting there just now, how did she get away so fast? I looked in the kitchen, she wasn't there. I looked in the toilet, not there either. I called "Yara, Yara," and then I looked outside—oh no, she was in the garden trying to climb onto my bike to get out of the garden. I ran to the garden towards her while I felt even more nauseous and dizzy. I lifted her off my bike, she jumped out of my arms. It was incredibly heavy. And then as my pregnancy progressed, my belly started to grow and my back started to hurt, and Yara still had to be lifted often. It felt like hell. I really dreaded every day when she suddenly didn't want her afternoon naps anymore, and that was my only moment of rest during the day. Once, she was so awake, so energetic in the afternoon; normally she would go to bed for an hour in the afternoon. I was happy then, I could rest my belly a bit, but this time at 11 o'clock we were...

on the little square in front of my garden and I was sitting on the bench she was stomping on the slide and she was so happy ma ma she called me I felt so guilty towards my little girl she wanted to play with me but I was sooo sick back pain stomach issues I couldn't sit on the bench any longer I picked her up from the slide and carried her with a lot of pain and effort to my bedroom so hard the stairs up oh how I suffered when I finally got to my bed I laid her down and lay down next to her myself finally but she started crying oo no please go to sleep I thought please I can't anymore after she cried for a long time she fell asleep her face was completely warm from crying I felt so guilty she doesn't have the mother a 1-year-old is entitled to she has a mother who was always sick and tired irritable couldn't handle much because of her pregnancy that my girl didn't deserve she was so spontaneous and cheerful quite busy and energetic but so spontaneous and cheerful now that she's four I notice what I missed with her by getting pregnant too quickly again after my pregnancy I couldn't build a good bond with her and I couldn't consciously experience her development step by step and that still hurts now that they're older it's not easier they differ greatly in character and argue all day long about everything and anything what number 1 wants number 2 also wants because they're both so small they have exactly the same interests so often arguing over the same toys really so exhausting my advice would be wait a bit and consciously enjoy your child until you start with the second my little girl has only become busier with the arrival of my second sorry for my long story greetings felicia

Sounds like you've had a pretty rough time. Don't let yourself down just because things went the way they did during your pregnancy. If you were sick, tired, and nauseous, it's completely understandable that it was hard for you. You didn't intentionally give your daughter less attention.

I hope you're now really enjoying your little family.

Hi anonymous, thank you for your kind and understanding message. I really hated the term "tropical years" where you always hear about it. It's so true and shouldn't be underestimated. I don't really understand people who say they got out of diapers quickly, had two kids quickly, etc. How is it quick? You have everything twice as hard; it feels much longer.
  12. felicia Guest #13

all because 2 times almost simultaneously 2 kids in the toddler phase and more of those phases you always have double so everything takes twice as long twice as heavy no for me it doesn't feel so good quickly 2 in a row quickly out of the kids and I will try not to feel guilty towards my oldest I could indeed do nothing about it that I was affected by my pregnancy I could only after the fact make sure I waited a few years to get pregnant with number 2 and anonymously if I may ask are you already taking a second?
  13. vera Guest #14

Oh, that sounds awful. I think it's great that I consciously chose to have an 8-year gap. I can tell you, I'd recommend it to everyone. Maise often looks after her sister Leanna, so I can enjoy a quiet breakfast in the morning with my husband. She always takes her sister with her when she goes outside, and if I send her to the supermarket for a shopping trip, she brings her sister along. Very practical! Best wishes, Vera
  14. Anonymous Guest #15

No, we're deliberately waiting a bit longer before trying for a baby because we really want to enjoy just the two of us for a little while. And because I also think it's still too heavy.
    You make that clear too.
Oh well, your kids can surely play nicely together later on, and the fights will pass.
