Scared of not being able to get pregnant, for no reason at all!

Hi ladies! (And maybe guys too?)

As long as I can remember, I’ve had a strong desire for children, and in recent years, I’ve had “popping ovaries.” Now it’s finally happening: my partner and I stopped the pill a few weeks ago! I had my last pill-induced period over a week ago and had sex for the first time without the protection of the pill in the past few days. Crazy, right! But mostly very exciting!

I’ve always been afraid that my desire for children might not come true. You hear just as many sad stories as good ones when it comes to getting pregnant. Because I have such a big desire for children, I’m even more afraid that it won’t work out for us. The statistics are positive, and I also know that after long-term pill use, it can take a while before it works (I’ve been on the pill for over 12 years), but it could also happen right away. Some say this, others say that.

Who can reassure me a bit? All positive stories/anecdotes/experiences/science are welcome!

In short, a bit about my lifestyle: I smoked for a long time (I’m now 27, almost 28) and still smoke occasionally. I also drink some wine (sometimes a bit more on weekends). Otherwise, I eat healthily, except for occasional sweets or chips. I have a healthy weight and no obvious reasons why getting pregnant wouldn’t work for me. Both my family and my partner’s family are super fertile and have never had problems getting pregnant (smoked, got pregnant on the pill, etc.).

Best regards,
Alotteke

I had that too, it's a very logical reaction. You really want something, and that brings a lot of uncertainty along with it. Luckily, these doubts are usually just in your head, and hopefully, you'll be able to tell us here on the forum soon that the test was positive! After 8 years of the pill, I got pregnant right away and with the second one too, so there are definitely success stories out there.

I’ve had that feeling too. My cousins and sister-in-law were so pregnant. I stopped the pill in April and still haven’t gotten pregnant. I just let nature take its course. We only have sex when we both feel like it. Of course, I do feel a bit disappointed when I get my period. But I’m not thinking about it as much anymore, and that keeps me calm!

    I have this too.
I'm not pregnant either. Not for over a year now, after using the pill for 5 years... I was 20 when I stopped!!
My mom got pregnant on the first try 4 times... and me, I have PCOS and haven't had a period on my own at all this past year.
I know you were asking for success stories haha, and mine isn't exactly that, sorry about that! But don't think like I did, 'this will never happen to me!'
I had high hopes at the beginning, just like you. There was no obvious reason why it wouldn't work out; young, healthy, fertile family, etc... piece of cake!!
Try not to hold on so tightly to the 'perfect picture' and give yourself some time. These days, it's said to take at least a year.
And I know; if someone had told me this a year ago, I would've said, "get lost."
But after all the hospital treatments last year, I've learned to myself: don't expect too much, then it can only be a pleasant surprise!

    Good luck!

7 years on the pill, pregnant on round 5. The leaflet says that fertility is usually still significantly reduced for 3 months after stopping the pill, so I think I got pregnant quite quickly after being on the pill for so long.

    Hi Alotteke,

My husband and I have also stopped the pill 2 months ago! Now I have the same feeling as you. The feeling that it might take a really long time. Without any explainable reason, by the way.
Just a bit about my background: I am 23 years old, live healthily, don't smoke, don't drink, have been taking folic acid for 2 weeks, and my weight is normal.
I've been on the pill since I was 16, stopped last year, got an IUD inserted, and after that failed, I went back on the pill. (for about 6 months)
In our families too, all the women are incredibly fertile! I asked my mother when she got pregnant and she said she was pregnant right away with 3 out of the 4 children!

Maybe we can exchange experiences and keep each other updated on how things are going! Sounds really nice to me, since I don't want to talk about it with anyone in my surroundings (except my husband of course)

    Greetings,
    Michèlle
