what do you all think about deliberately trying to make your child famous

I wanted to ask for advice from other moms: what do you think about trying to make your child famous? I've wanted this for a long time—that my kids, or at least my daughter, become a singer and a celebrity so she can earn money later. My husband thinks it's a bad idea and also feels I make her practice too much. He thinks it's not good for a child and that she'll become unhappy because of it. But what do you all think? Should I push forward or not?

It might sound weird that I'm asking you guys, but I'd like to get another opinion. I always hear my sister-in-law say how much she's against it, and she often says you don't even know if they want it themselves, but I think I really want it. They're still too young to decide about it. It's my heart's desire.

Is this a joke or something? That's really selfish of you. Even if it's your heart's desire, that doesn't mean it has to be for your child. You shouldn't make your child fulfill your own dreams.
Let them enjoy being a kid; it goes by so fast, and they'll have their whole lives to be grown-ups!

No, anonymous, this isn't a joke. I was already scared of reactions like this. My sister always says she thinks I'm crazy for wanting to do something like this for my daughter. But I mean earning money for later, that she hopefully gets into a modeling agency and is grateful to me for having encouraged her like that. I know the chances are slim that it works out and that it's usually about having friends in that scene with the right contacts, but I hope it works out. Only my sister is making me doubt myself a bit. At first, I wanted Sharona to become a photo model. I had already searched for a children's modeling agency on the internet, specifically for kids, but unfortunately, my daughter Sharona goes crazy when I take a lot of pictures of her. She starts screaming no as soon as she realizes I want to take a picture of her, and she hides as soon as she hears, "Sharona, can you just pose for a picture?" So I thought modeling wasn't for her. Then I thought maybe she could become a singer, since it was my dream as a little girl, but it never came true. So maybe it'll work out with Sharona. But my sister even gets angry about it. So I'm starting to doubt.

I completely agree with your sister. For several reasons.
It's not your dream that's hers.
Your child might feel very insecure because you have certain expectations of her.
A child should be able to be themselves but also wants their parents' approval, so you're putting your daughter in a difficult situation that could become very stressful.
Not everyone wants to be famous, and you're trying to force this on her.
Please give your daughter the choice and freedom to do what she wants herself. And support her in that so she doesn't feel like she's letting you down. Please leave your dream behind and come back to reality.

Thank you so much for your advice, and I'll definitely do something with it, no matter how hard it is for me. I've read your message four times, and suddenly I realized that maybe it's not really about my little girl after all, but deep down, this is about me—my missed dream. I thought that if I couldn't have my own, then maybe Sharona... It felt like I hadn't completely given up on my dream. But I'll try to focus on Sharona's well-being, no matter how difficult it is for me. The last thing I want is for her to feel like she doesn't meet my expectations. Just thinking about it hurts, so I'll have to wait until she's older and ask her if she wants it too. But again, it'll be hard for me. Best wishes, Julia.

That's really nice that you've gained new insights after reading. I wish you all the best and hopefully you can make it happen for your daughter. Good luck!

I also hope that you'll actually do something with Anoniem's words and not just say to ignore the comments.

No, I meant it, Shana. I’m seriously going to work on stopping this because, as you could read in my first post, I told you that I was trying to make her pose for photos while she was getting crazy, hiding whenever I wanted to take her picture, and even screaming at regular photos. I can’t get her anymore, and when my sister says it’s because of you, it hurts. I don’t want to drive my girl crazy, so I also honestly say it’s not easy, but I need to switch that button and take my sister very seriously, and that’s what I’m doing too. My sister is so happy that I’m doing this now, and it’s from other people too. Thanks, Shana, for your message. Greetings, Julia.

Don't try to fulfill your own dreams through your children, but help them realize their dreams as much as possible.

    Best regards, Kim

I just want to say that I think it's really admirable how open you are about everything.
And I think it's clear that you want the best for your daughter—you're not being so vulnerable here for nothing.
    Good luck!
