I think Ravina is beautiful, but I'm afraid my daughter might get teased for it or that people will never remember her name because it's unfamiliar/weird.

I find Ravina the least appealing of the bunch, but that's just my personal opinion. It sounds quite old-fashioned to me for a child's name.

I think that name sounds rich and beautiful, quite unique. Milou I find terrible, and Laura comes up too often, it gets boring then, she becomes just another Laura. Rosa is also such a well-known name, not original. So I'd go for Ravina, sounds rich and is beautiful and special. Good luck with your choice. Greetings, Madelene

We're going to name our baby Malou, a beautiful name. I voted for Milou.
I think Ravina sounds a bit harsh.

Why should a name be original, Madelene?

Ravina wouldn't be my choice, I love those super Dutch, totally non-original names

If you call her Ravina, she'll probably get called Ravi a lot, which I think is quite cool..

Good luck with the choice, if you think Ravina is nice then go for it! I don't think it's a weird name at all.

I really like Ravina and Rosa, the others less so.

    Good luck with choosing.

Ravina is special, I personally think Milou is really nice! I think there will come a moment when your gut just tells you which of your preferences it should be

Well, little crumb, I'll answer your question. I find names like Anna, Lieke, Roos, Lize, etc., uninspiring. I'm Dutch myself, but I find it boring if I'm the fourth Emma in a class, for example at school. Emma, just to name one, is also Dutch and comes up so often. What makes your child special if there are so many other kids with the same name? Secondly, I'd like my daughters to have their own personality. I hear you thinking: isn't every child already unique? Yes, but what makes your child unique with yet another Lotte or Tess? People automatically think of another Tess or Laura or Lotte they already know, so they already have an image of your child. With a more original name, more unique, less common, people won't have such a quick image in mind when they hear your child's name.

People will also be more impressed if it's a special, uncommon name that you really put effort into. They'll be less impressed or surprised by names like Emma, Lieke, or Lotte. Sorry to the people who have those names or have named their children that—this is just my personal opinion. Both of my daughters also have unique names. Greetings, Madelene

so i hope i've cleared it up for you, crumbs?
  10. kruimel #11

Well well, it wasn't meant offensively, Madelene
I just completely disagree with you, in no way at all.

I won't go into it further either!
  11. madelene Guest #12

Of course, everyone is free to share their own opinion, isn't that right? I just respond very humanely to your comment. No hard feelings, though. I'm really sorry if it came across as harsh to you. Greetings, Madelene.

If I may just chime in with your Madelene and Kruimel, I think Kruimel is making a silly remark because who asks what's wrong with not being original? You don't hear anyone else complaining about it, only she then says in surprise, well, well, that it wasn't meant offensively. So when someone else comes at her, she takes it as an attack. She's actually the one who feels attacked by Madelene. Kruimel feels attacked by Madelene. I think Madelene is strong; she addresses it instead of avoiding it. The question Kruimel asks her... sorry to interfere, but I couldn't help myself. I think Ravina is also beautiful, but Laura is too, just a bit less so. Milou, I don't think is a name. Sorry for all the respect, tastes differ, and Rosa is too ordinary in that regard. I agree with Madelene on that.

This was never my intention... my comment apparently came across as really unpleasant.

Let's just stop this, please. This topic is here to help Simone, to say that Ravina is a lovely name for her little girl, and that the choice IS HER'S, regardless of what others say... just like everyone makes their own choices and has their own opinions.

    Thank you.

Ravina Laura, or what do you think of Lana?
  15. sita Guest #16

Exactly, crumb, and I don't need you to tell me all this. Save yourself the trouble. You respond with a question about Madelene. Your question was: why should a name be original, Madelene? Well, then you can expect to get an answer to that. She indeed didn't mean it against you, but against Simone, as you describe her in your post. This topic is here to help her. So why do you ask Madelene that question? It's not wrong, but she gives you an answer to your question. She has the right to respond however she wants. And it's annoying that this isn't about me, but I read your posts and couldn't help but say this. End of story. Forget it. Further, greetings, Sita.
  16. kruimel #17

Ugh.. just stop talking about it now.
  17. sita Guest #18

Yeah, I'm done with it. I've already said my piece.
  18. elly Guest #19

I like Ravina or Loura, but not Rosa so much.
  19. syntia Guest #20

I think Ravina is a super cute name, but not so much Loura, and Milou definitely not—it reminds me of Baloo the bear from the kids' movie The Jungle Book, but that's just a side note. And Rosa... I have a personal reason why I can't stand that name. Rosa was my husband's mistress and she did everything she could to take him away from me, and she succeeded. He's with her now. So this has nothing to do with the name itself, but every time I hear "Rosa," I think of the woman who took my husband away from me. I'd go for Ravina—nice and unique. Love, Syntia
