Burning question about ovulation

Hi ladies,

I'm Ganescha, almost 30, and my husband and I have been trying to conceive for a while now. I have a quick question:

I stopped the pill last November. I'd been taking Diane 35 for years, which I regret. I only got my period again on May 7th this year. My cycles have been 33, 39, and 36 days long, averaging 36. Last month was the first time I managed to detect my ovulation using an ovulation test.

I've heard different things about when to start counting from when you stopped the pill. I'd actually like to see the GP by November, especially because I had an STI in the past, so I want my fallopian tubes checked (flushed). My husband, however, wants to wait until March or April next year.

So my question is: should I count from November, or is it likely that I didn't ovulate at all during those first 7 months? I'm starting to get quite frustrated, especially since 17 girls in my circle are pregnant!

Thanks in advance for your replies!

So I have PCOS, and then you can just go 8 months without a period or be really irregular... or the pill had to work well, because that's what it's supposed to do!!

    Hi,

I don't have any personal experience with this, but if your gut feeling says you want to see the doctor in November, then go ahead. They can give you their own advice on whether you should wait or if they can already do some tests.

I hope you won't need to go in November at all, but that a little miracle arrives before then. Good luck!

Ganesha, so you've only had three cycles so far. I'd give your body some more time to restore its hormonal balance on its own. I think it's already heading in the right direction.

I've been trying for a while myself, but I do have regular cycles. I know a girl on this forum who didn't get her period for the first 10 months after stopping the pill, but then she did. This month, after 8 cycles, she got pregnant spontaneously.

So I'd wait a bit before visiting the doctor. You've had a positive ovulation test - that's very good news!

Wishing you lots of success and a positive test soon!

    Lots of love,
    Sophia

@katootjekip, thanks for your reply! I'll definitely do that too. It gives me a calmer feeling knowing that nothing's wrong.

Sophia, thanks for your reply! I really appreciate this I also definitely notice it's heading in the right direction, which is positive already. And it's nice to hear such a personal story. I really hope it's granted to us (soon).

    Hi Ganescha!

    I really relate to your story;
I stopped the pill in October and started trying in November.. And I didn't get my period. After 7 months, I went to the GP, who immediately referred me to a gynecologist, and the result is that I'm now going on the 2nd round of Clomid (hormone treatment).

It's certainly a relief for you that you got your period on your own and that you've been able to spot an ovulation (:
Still, I'd recommend going back to the GP in November. It'll have been exactly a year since you started, and believe me; it brings so much peace..
Don't get me wrong, going to the hospital for check-ups every few days is hardly fun, but at least you feel supported and heard.. Plus, they really put you at ease.. Because the "oh no, maybe I'll never get pregnant"-thoughts will surely grow more frequent the longer you're at it, right?

Maybe the GP will say you should wait a bit longer, and you'll either get pregnant or get help in March/April anyway.

In any case, I wish you heaps of success and hope it doesn't come to that for you (:

Thanks for your reply, Kruimel. Nice to read a relatable story! And good to hear that it brought you so much peace. I'm really ready for that too. It's mainly that so many people around me are dealing with this and I just want to know if something else is going on. Because that feeling you mentioned, it does keep running through my head.

I hope it hits next month, because then we're going on holiday and we can relax a bit.

I also hope you get pregnant soon Thanks again!

I think every woman has that feeling when she's trying to conceive... And if everyone around you is pregnant too, it only makes it worse.
Hope you don't have to go to the GP, that medical system is really not fun Even though knowing that something isn't right with me is a relief... So it wasn't just in my head all this time!

Have a lovely holiday and good luck again!!
