Does a gynecologist have professional secrecy towards your partner?

A friend of mine had her IUD removed without her partner's knowledge, at a different gynecologist than her usual one.
She's going to be honest with her gynecologist about it, but is that gynecologist allowed to tell her partner what she did?

Thanks in advance!

    Can someone help me?
I really want to convince my girlfriend so she doesn’t do it.
If I can tell her that her partner will find out anyway, she might just tell him herself, and maybe the damage can still be limited.

    @Anoniempje,

Anyway, you could tell her that she'd be better off being honest with her partner.
I understand the feeling of wanting a baby, but maybe it's better for her to make it discussable... A gynecologist does have a duty of confidentiality....
But anyway, I don't know if they are married or anything, I just don't understand why she wants to get into a situation where she might end up alone with her child and leave the father of the child with a mess because she has a wish...
I wish you lots of strength and I hope you can persuade your friend and that she is open to reason......

Kind regards Ju or well mavami

I also always thought that gynecologists, like general practitioners, were bound by confidentiality. But recently, I got a dead-serious call from the gyn to get the results of my friend's (not even my husband) semen analysis, even though they had called my friend a few days earlier to say he would get the results by phone in a few days.. he sat waiting all day and I was eventually called.. So yeah, I think that in the situation 'having children' confidentiality is a bit less strict or something because they assume you're doing this together with your partner?

I would just be honest with her and say that she's acting incredibly stupid. And if she doesn't listen, I'd tell that friend myself. It might seem like betraying your friend, but sorry, I don't think secretly having a baby is exactly a good move either.

    Good luck!

Hi, the OB-GYN won't just tell the partner, but if they come together, the doctor won't care that he's not supposed to know.

As Kruimel already said, when it comes to having kids, they see the couple as one, because in most cases they want it together anyway.

He'll find out eventually, if she does manage to get pregnant, so my opinion is also to encourage her to talk to him. If she really doesn't want to, you could make a comment when both are present, so she can't avoid it!

    Good luck!

I have a friend in a similar situation here, but I see this has been discussed before. I saw someone say that the gynecologist won't tell unless they go together. But if she tells her gynecologist and also asks whether the doctor should say anything when the partner is present or if the partner were to ask what happened with the IUD, can the gynecologist then 'lie' to the partner because she asked that?
