What should I do about my sister-in-law?

In-laws, you just have them...
It's always a tricky thing.
Some people can't be changed, and if it affects you so much, it's important for you to take a few steps back.
This is your life, and it's a pity if you let someone else determine it.

I would personally ask her why she acts this way, and if she can't give a decent answer, then you know enough.
Rise above it and live your life!

You don't need negativity!

I've already asked that, but we're not getting an answer. Even her husband and my in-laws don't know what's going on that makes her act like this.
I'd say if I had done or said something wrong now...

You could send a card so you never have to blame yourself later (not that it would be necessary because the fault isn't with you as I read it, but that could still come up ;-) ). I would personally always make it very clear what the situation is. If she comes by and acts like nothing's wrong: just say it. If she wants to visit: that's fine (if you still want her to) but then she shouldn't look for trouble. I'm always as straightforward as possible. It took some getting used to for the in-laws at first (I'm always polite) but they know exactly what they have with me now. And personally, that works best for me too. If she doesn't want to take that into account; well, then it's very unfortunate. Everything has to come from both sides, you know. You can still be friendly, but if you're the only one being friendly, it's still off balance anyway. Especially if she doesn't seem to know why she's acting like this herself.

Wow, what a story. Kudos to you for handling this so well!

I’d send them a birth card. And nothing else. That way you clearly show what your standards and values are—something they obviously don’t know. And yeah, I’ve had a lot of people kick me hard in the gut, which has made me pretty tough about removing people from my life. (Feeling sad about it every time doesn’t make it any easier.) So I won’t let myself be hurt or stepped on anymore. I’m really standing up for myself now. Maybe a bit of a hard stance, but it feels good.

And keeping her updated on the pregnancy? I wouldn’t do it. But that’s just my opinion. I’m the type who doesn’t force people to know about my pregnancy. If they want to know, they can always ask me. Didn’t she show any interest in you either? I’d just enjoy it for myself and then with your husband. It’s going to be your beautiful little miracle.

But I know those types... People who love being in the spotlight. That just doesn’t work for me... By giving them no attention.

Girl, you are worth so much more!!!! And soon a mother...
Go enjoy your little one in your belly....

And I don’t mean this in a bad way... but I get angry quickly when people are treated like this! I just can’t stand injustice...

Thanks everyone for the supportive messages.

Maybe just send a card and leave the rest up to them.

    @Romy,

Oh girl, what a nasty situation, I can totally relate.
Having a hypochondriac sister-in-law is really not normal.

And yeah, if you want to send a card, go ahead and just mention it...

Lots of strength and think of your little one, don't stress too much..

    Love, Ju or rather MavanMi..

    Hey,
happened to be googling the same topic and I came across your question :-), you're not alone and neither am I :-), that puts me at ease, but it's not fun for us! Judging by the date, you've probably given birth by now. How are things going now? Hopefully everything is better, although I know that with such people it's wishful thinking. I hope there's less tension or that you can put it out of your mind. If something comes up, feel free to post again. Greetings
