Mistake in gender?

Hi everyone, a quick question...

We're thinking of having a gender scan at 16 weeks... A few years back, mistakes were sometimes made about the sex... Like a girl turning out to be a boy or vice versa. How does it work now exactly? Are the machines more modern these days, or does this still happen regularly? Are there any women who experienced this around 2012/2013... Greetings

I haven't experienced it myself yet, I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant with my second and had an ultrasound done for both, that's when it's the clearest!!

I'd just really wait for the 20-week ultrasound... It's because the genital part is the same at first for boys and girls... the protrusion then sinks down to become labia for a girl, and for a boy it grows bigger I saw that somewhere in a YouTube video. That's why mistakes can still be made...

Back then, the equipment was indeed worse, and 3D didn’t even exist yet. This gives more depth, so you can better see whether it’s a little penis or not.

As long as the baby is positioned well, you can see it very clearly. We went for a 3D scan at 18 weeks, and it was very clear that it was a boy. For our son, we had a pre-scan at 27 weeks for extra checks because friends had experienced a mistake.

I've heard that before too, that it's different at birth.
But we didn't want to know, we thought it was so special not to know. And when he was born, it was a boy.
