Hi ladies,
When is the best time to get a prenatal ultrasound?
It doesn’t matter if it’s a regular ultrasound, 3D, or 4D...
I’m currently 18 weeks and would love to get some nice, clear photos for later! I’m curious...

Then you'd better do that from now on... Once the baby is older, you won't be able to see everything so clearly anymore!!

Where we had ours done, they recommend 3/4D ultrasounds from 26 weeks up to 32 weeks at the latest. Before 26 weeks, babies have very little fat on their bodies, so they look a bit different and don’t resemble how the baby will look at birth. At 26 weeks, they won’t be able to capture the whole baby on screen because it’s too big by then. After 32 weeks, the baby might have already dropped too far into the pelvis, making a nice ultrasound impossible. It really depends on what you prefer. On my profile, there are two photos from the 28-week ultrasound. You can check if that’s what you’d like. I really recommend it!

Oh, and at 17 weeks we had a 2D ultrasound for gender determination. Our baby still fit perfectly in the frame at that time. I have a photo of it here, so 2D is still a nice period now because they can still be fully in view.

    Hi toetieloet

We also had a 2D ultrasound done and a 3D one at 27 weeks. We thought the last one was the most beautiful; you can really see things in it. Very fun to look at!

Thank you, ladies, for your responses!

RJ, you have super nice photos! I think it's indeed handy to do a 3D ultrasound between 26 and 32 weeks. We have the 20-week ultrasound in two weeks, so then we'll get to see our little one in full view! After that, we'll make an appointment for a nice 2D and 3D.
