Crib or sidecar?

Hey Molly...

Tough, right, all those choices! With Vito I didn't have a bassinet and he just slept in his crib in his own room. Now I've changed my mind and I actually find it nice if our girl is with us. I'm going to breastfeed, so that makes it a lot easier too! We didn't buy a new bassinet either, because as you already said, it's quite expensive and only for a short while! I bought a super cute bassinet on Marktplaats for only 40 euros! That's doable, right! I still have to experience what it's like to have her next to us. ..

If you want to put your crib in the room, girl, and it fits... just do it! I think it's really nice to have her close to me!

Love, Lynn

With my daughter, I had a crib and she slept in her own room right away. But now that I'm pregnant again, I want the little one to sleep with us in our room for now. Also because we only have two bedrooms upstairs and a study room downstairs. Our house is going up for sale, and if it stays on the market for too long, our daughter will sleep downstairs and the baby will take her room. So we're first buying a bassinet for our room via Marktplaats.

But I have to be honest, I actually liked it that our daughter slept in her own room right away, and my husband could feed her at night. I had a difficult birth.

Lynn and Sanjo, thank you! So it's going to be the crib after all. I just need to decide whether it'll be in our room first or in its own little room. I'll ask the postpartum care worker about it on Friday too.
I do want to breastfeed, so it might be nice if the baby is right next to me.

Just do what feels best for you. I didn't breastfeed because my internist advised against it, saying it would take too much out of me. Otherwise, I would have done it too. And if a crib fits in your room, you can keep it like that. We're planning to buy a toddler bed for our daughter soon, so the little one can eventually move into her own bed. So that's another reason for a bassinet.

We're not getting a crib. We're going straight to a crib in his own room. If I still want him to sleep with us at first, he can do that in the travel basket of the stroller.

I also debated this for a long time. I was afraid of regretting it if I didn't try it and not have a crib. I really like the idea of having the little one in a crib in our room, but it did seem like a lot of extra cost. And I kept doubting because of all the different pros and cons I heard from everyone. Now I'm getting it from my parents for my birthday, but I would have bought it myself anyway. You hear so many different experiences that I feel like we just have to figure it out for ourselves. If we don't like it, I can always put the crib in her own room later.

I have a bassinet in our bedroom for the first few weeks, and then she'll sleep nicely in her crib in her own room.

The opinions are really divided, I notice. I think we'll just put the crib in our room for now.. If I end up being awake all night because of it, he can always go back to the baby's room. I think we just need to try things out.
But thanks for all the replies! It's nice that there are more people who have done it without a crib before. So I don't have to worry about that.

I'm expecting twins and I bought a crib for 20 euros via Marktplaats and the second one for 17.50 at a thrift store. In their bedroom, I already have a crib, and the bassinets will be next to our bed, so you can keep an eye on them easily, and if you're breastfeeding, that's also quite convenient.
Usually, they stay in your bedroom for 4 to 6 months, and then they move to their own room, but it's really up to you; there aren't any strict rules. Just do what feels most comfortable for you. You can also put the crib next to your bed for the first few months and then move it to the room later.
As RJ mentioned, you just have to try it out and see how it goes. If it doesn't work, you can always change things. Good luck!

I've got a crib in our little one's room.
Not sure yet if I want to breastfeed, hehe hihi
I want to try it in our own room, but the bedroom is right next to it, so I'm just a hop away if something comes up or my husband needs me.

But it's a tough choice, indeed.

All 3 in the crib on their own little room...:-) It worked super well for our son and daughter, and now with our 5-week-old it's going really well too... I do give bottles, I think with breastfeeding it's very handy to start with a bassinet first..

Our son just lay in his own little room in a crib... now pregnant with our second, and he'll be sleeping there too soon!!
My husband made a really nice crib back then with my father-in-law, but we used it downstairs or outside... very nice and will be again
We put the baby directly in his own room, so they get used to it too!!

Cradle there I could rock her to sleep comfortably. Ideal. Greetings, Marloes.

I ended up in the hospital at 4 weeks too early with ruptured membranes, and now my husband has set up the crib anyway. He’s sleeping in it like a baby!!
