pregnancy test

Hi,

My boyfriend and I really want a baby and we’re going to try starting at the end of March.
But I have a question: how many days/weeks after sex can you take a pregnancy test? And which test clearly shows whether I am or am not pregnant? (A cheaper one)
Love,

You can take an early test as early as, I think, one or two days before your period is due. But if you really want to be sure you're pregnant, test on the day your period was due (or a day or two after), or opt for a blood test through your GP. Read the article on this site about testing—it's very useful and clear!

If you know how long your cycle is, you also know when it’s best to take a test. For example, I had a 24-day cycle. The first day of your period is day 1, so I took a test on day 25 because my period didn’t come. Sometimes you can take a test a few days earlier, but it might show positive even though you could still get your period afterward because the egg hasn’t implanted yet.

You can use the cheap Kruidvat tests—2 for 5 euros (I used those too)—or the other Kruidvat ones, which are around 10 euros for 2 and one for just under 8 euros (I’ve used those as well). But to be really sure, I later took the Clearblue digital test, which clearly says pregnant or not pregnant and how far along you are. I started with the cheaper ones first because the Clearblue ones are quite pricey.

I hope I could help. There are also websites where you can calculate when your ovulation is. I think they’re available on this site too. And of course, there are also ovulation tests.

    Thank you!
I did an online calculation of my cycle, and it says that if I manage to get pregnant between March 27 and 31, I can take a pregnancy test around April 12.
Hopefully, this is correct. We'll see!
    Love
