Trying to get pregnant after a miscarriage

Hi Fabiana,

What a heavy story. My neighbor went through the same thing and ended up getting pregnant just fine afterwards.

A pregnancy test can sometimes take a while to show positive if your body only starts producing pregnancy hormones later on. You'll just have to wait a bit, unfortunately. Either until you get your period or until you get a positive test. I really hope it's the latter!

Yeah, I can totally imagine you can't wait. Once the cravings hit...

My neighbor got pregnant pretty soon after that, but it was a few years ago and we've both moved since then, so I can't tell you exactly how long. A few months is my best guess.

Hi Chantal, that's intense! I also had an ectopic pregnancy, but luckily it ended up being a miscarriage. I had to wait and see if the hCG levels kept dropping, but initially they were talking about laparoscopic surgery, which I thought was awful! We waited for a normal period, and then tried again. Got pregnant right away. I was so unsure, especially the thought that it would happen through the same fallopian tube again and become an ectopic pregnancy again. Luckily, everything went well. I don't have any further experience with getting pregnant with one fallopian tube, but I know from others who were in the same situation that they just got pregnant. I was told that the other fallopian tube takes over the job of the removed one. I hope you'll be pregnant again soon! Love

Oh, I see now that I had addressed the message to Chantal. I am indeed pregnant, 17 weeks tomorrow. I had a miscarriage last September and got a positive test again in November. I did notice a clear difference between the two pregnancies. With the ECT, I had symptoms very quickly, but with this one, it took more than a week after my missed period to get a positive test. I mainly had tender nipples and felt a bit nauseous. I also had severe pain in my left groin, radiating down to my leg and knee. Really terribly painful, unfortunately, no one did anything about it—not the doctor or the urgent care center. I ended up at the ER.

With this pregnancy, I felt a few stabbing sensations in my belly button a couple of days after "the deed," nothing else. But those twinges gave me the feeling that I might be pregnant again. I didn't have that with the ECT, and I already had a slight suspicion that this time it would be in the right place. I got a positive test on day 21 of my cycle. Then came the hospital visits again, every time with hCG injections and ultrasounds. It wasn't until a few weeks later that they could say for sure that this time it was in the right place. It's different for everyone, but I clearly noticed a difference between the two pregnancies. Waiting and seeing does seem really irritating! I can imagine your body is a bit off balance. Are you trying again already, or are you waiting for a first period? Have you been able to process the ECT a bit? Love

    Hey RJ,

Super congrats!!! Yeah, with me it was actually really weird. I still had a pregnancy test lying around at home and I was so focused on it that I was like, "get rid of everything," so I threw out that last test too. But I felt bad throwing it away, so I thought, "I'll at least pee on it for a minute." And sure enough, it was positive right away. But yeah, that didn't help. During my first ultrasound, they found out there was nothing in the uterus. I got my first period after the surgery in January, and I'm now waiting for my second one. I took a test yesterday but it was negative. So we're waiting again. Sometimes it's still hard for me. I think, "I was pregnant, and it was just taken away from me." I can get really angry about that sometimes. But anyway, we're going for it again and hoping it'll work out this time, and I'll get to be a mom.

    Best,

Anyway, it's really nice that you've already had a period. I remember being so scared that my body wouldn't function properly anymore after the pregnancy. I completely lost all confidence. When I got that first period, even though it only lasted 2 days, it was already a huge relief. And it's no small thing, I think you'll still feel that way for a while. I shed quite a few tears over it too, but I think it helped that I got pregnant again quickly. Then you just move on. I wish you both from the bottom of my heart, and hopefully you'll be pregnant again soon! It would be absolutely super if your period stays away nicely now! Keep me posted? Love

Yeah, it would be great if it stayed away, but I'm not entirely confident about that!!

I'll let you know if it does..

    Greetings.

I have a question: how long did you all wait for your due date? I had surgery 3 weeks ago, but I have to wait a few months for my cycle to return to normal... I find waiting 3-6 months really long... I also read that people get pregnant after just 1 month... I want it so badly!
