Baby won't take a pacifier

Hi, I have a question. Our 6-week-old baby won’t take a pacifier. Now that’s not a huge deal, but she also won’t sleep. She’s often awake from 3 PM to midnight. We put her to bed every hour, but she only sleeps for a bit. Sometimes just half an hour. Isn’t that not enough? We feel so sorry for her and thought a pacifier might help, but she gags at the sight of it.

What should we do?

For us, it helps to put a drop of vitamin D or, for example, Cinababy from VSM on the pacifier. It's slightly sweet, and our little boy likes to suck on it.

You could also try different types of pacifiers. We did that too, and our little boy finds the MAM the most comfortable; it's not too big or long either.

Have you ever thought about swaddling? Good results are being achieved with it!

Swaddling! Our daughter also didn't want a pacifier and found peace sleeping swaddled. The CB nurse can show you how to do it.

I always find swaddling looks so scary. I do believe it works, but brrrr, it would totally freak me out.

    Hi,
I used a sling for my son and swaddled him at night. It helped, so we as parents could recharge our energy too. Swaddling might look a bit scary at first, but it works!

    Hi Nina,

Is your little one still sucking on your finger or something? Or is the need to suck just not that strong yet? Here, a sling worked super when our son couldn't/wouldn't sleep!

hi nina you might think it's weird but i have a foreign partner and he's not muslim but he sometimes listens to the quran the sound we also have a baby girl and she wouldn't sleep when my partner came home with it i told him he was crazy but really she got calmer and calmer and fell asleep like a rose don't ask me how it works

On YouTube, you can type "Quran," and through the trilling of the sounds, I was also told.

that it works as a relaxing method and that babies are sensitive to it. I listened to it while falling asleep during my second pregnancy and got a super calm baby at birth. Really a quiet baby who slept through everything. I'm 100% Dutch, my husband is Egyptian. I've seen it myself with both my kids.

and walk around the room a lot with your baby. Just let your baby be with you often. Keep your baby close to you for the first few months. Your baby misses your body scent. When you put your baby down, your baby seems to miss you quickly. What also helps is a rocking bed that you can rock while you're doing something or softly singing at the same time. You rock your baby to sleep, so she hears your voice and knows you're close by. The back-and-forth rocking reminds her of the womb. After a few months, she will gradually become calmer.

and one more thing: if she doesn't accept a pacifier, it's a sign that she misses you, your heartbeat, which she heard for nine months, and your body scent. So keep your baby close to you, at heart level, so your baby hears your heartbeat and becomes calm from it.

Or put a cuddly toy or a couple of wipes in your bed for a few nights, then put them in her bed. That way, they'll get used to your scent and become familiar with it.

Oh, and I don't prick the cocktail at the doctor's office without an appointment. Just one shot.

Hi, I have an 8-month-old son and he has NEVER wanted a pacifier. I've tried almost every pacifier on the market. But he still has a sucking need and still nurses. Not fully, but late in the evening and at night, which is very exhausting. I sing a lot for him when he's tired and that's how he falls asleep, in my arms, yes, but he sleeps.
This is my 7th child and he's the first one who DOESN'T want a pacifier AND doesn't want to suck on his thumb or fingers...so Mr. is using mom's breast as a pacifier now
You'd think I'd have lots of experience given the number of kids...but you learn something new every day...
I also don't know how to stop it because my breast is HIS comfort...

Hi! I also have an 8-month-old boy who initially wanted a pacifier but then didn't anymore. He often spat it out at night, and now he doesn't want it at all. I had given him a cloth with the pacifier attached at first, but he eventually didn't want that either, so I took it off. Now he can only sleep with a cloth.

    You could also try that.
    Good luck!
